The Mfume/Cardin race is nail-bitingly close. I still think Cardin will win, but the margin is tightening (3,000 votes) and reports are just starting (at 1 a.m.) to come in from Baltimore city, so there may still be surprises.

Gansler's not in the "courthouse" yet. He still has to run against Harford Co. State's Attorney Scott Rolle (R). There's talk that he may sue to get Gansler off the ballot as unqualified because he does not satisfy the requirements of office - having practiced law in Maryland for 10 years. He's been a member of the Maryland bar for 10 years, but he was practicing in DC before he moved to Maryland to practice as the Mont. Co. State's Attorney 8 years ago.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who's bummed about Beilenson losing to Sarbanes. Sure makes me wish that my father was a senator, then maybe I could get elected to Congress as well. One more parasite/lawyer headed to the House.
Yeah, I'm bummed about Sarbanes winning as well. He attended the Patterson Park Neighborhood Association's candidates forum, along with Oz Bengur, Paula Hollinger, and Peter Belienson- and he was the only one who didn't bother to personally introduce himself to any of the voters (he had his staffer do it for him). You could tell that he felt that attending this forum was beneath him.
I ended up voting for Hollinger- she won me over with her work on embryonic stem-cell research legislation, and I thought she could raise some hell in Congress.
... and it means people probably didn't think about it even long enough to realize which Sarbanes they were voting for, much less who the challengers were. People take no initiative to find out anything, and all 4 channels spent so much airltime on the election results last night (and this morning)-- but practically zero time informing people about the candidates in any of the races besides Cardin/Mfume and the Comptroller BS, so I guess it isn't surprising, but it is a bummer.
The people who voted for Sarbanes probably voted for Willie Don- thinking that he was still the mayor of Baltimore.
Scott Rolle is Frederick County's State's Attorney, not Harford County's.
Jill Carter is the only politician in Baltimore City that has stood up for the people over the politicians, including the mayor. She is a fearless warrior for justice. Insult her if you like. Thankfully, your shallow, narrow- mindedness is not shared by the people of the 41st district or of Baltimore City at large. Oh, I think St. Jill has her own reasons, but I will commend that she has been willing to do what no councilman other than Ken Harris will do, which is to call O'Malley out for the civil rights-tromping, goon squad-wielding failure to achieve ethical, plentiful, uniform policing that he is.
NO'Malley, may Tony the Tiger pee in your Corn Flakes.

Jill Carter is the only elected representative that has "called O'Malley out" on his failed police policies that have resulted in mass illegal arrests, while crime has remained unacceptably high. The others, including Ken Harris, have spinelessly "questioned" the commissioner and deputy commissioner about police practices. Carter is the only one who has demanded that "O'Malley Stop Illegal Arrests", and taken legal and legislative measures to that end.
I don't think you know anything about her. She is the only independent voice Baltimore citizens have in a politician. The others are only posturing.
And they call me a king of hyperbole. Jill and I have been in touch over the past year. I supply her with a good deal of data. But let's not canonize anyone prematurely. It is harder for councilpeople. For that reason, I give Ken a great deal of credit. He's trying, within the limitations imposed by the inertia he encounters in council. Readers really need to light a fire under their councilmen that reelection is gonna be hard without police department reform.
I don't want to drag this out forever. I've dealt with Del. Jill Carter on a number of issues over the past several years. I've also dealt with the councilman and other politicians. My regard for the delegate is not overblown or "hyperbole". She has stood strong and alone within the Baltimore City delegation. Her colleagues, as well as the mayor, have made it very rough for her, and tried to break her down.
Jill is a genuine people's servant. Ken Harris and the others are self-servants, party servants, and O'Malley servants.
Jill rightly calls out the mayor on his policing policies. Ken and the others give the mayor a pass constantly drawing atention to the mayor's subordinates as the culprits.

Really, D's C, What is your problem, or rather, obsession with Jill? I've met her. I voted for her. Frankly, she's the most real poitician I've ever met, and a genuine person. What is this "everything" about her that is so fake? What is your point?
Aside from MOM, you're the only person I've known to try and give her a bum rap. I met a man on election day who said he'd jump in front of a train for her b/c she's the city's best hope.
