Our bad...
Eyebrow-raising story from TDR's Danny Jacobs reveals the details behind a mysterious $200,000 settlement from the city: police picked up the wrong guy on child molestation charges, in spite of the fact he'd never lived or worked in Baltimore and didn't live in the country until five years after the alleged abuse took place. Adding insult to injury, city lawyers also apparently flat-out lied that it was the victim who wanted to keep the story quiet. But as Rikki Spector surely taught at Talmudical Academy, time wounds all heels.

"there is a growing consensus" that the case of George Huguely V, accused of killing former NDP student Yeardley Love, will be settled in a plea deal before trial
Ye olde loophole: Convicted felon Thomas Royal got 188 months for possessing ammo, but no time for the gun he was carrying as it was manufactured before 1899.
Gee, rilly? After the second escape in a year from the Hickey school, a report issued by the Juvenile Justice Monitoring Unit floats the notions of equipping juvenile facilities staff with radios and transporting the l'il hoodlums in secure vehicles.

Crown Heights it's not (sorry, NAACP), but tensions are up in the NW after the beating & wrist breakage of a teen by 23-year-old neighborhood watcher Eliyahu Werdesheim. Indeed Wedesheim's story sounds none too Kosher: if the kid was trespassing, why not call actual police? If his stick/plank was so threatening, why not just get back in the car? In better news, apparently another Shomrim member helped the beaten boy while Werdesheim fled.

One man is in custody and three are in the hospital after a triple shooting outside an Odenton bar.
The hunt is on for a Wicomico County teen accused of firing shots at police.
Two more Homicide victims have been identified. Patrick Dolan, 19, who was stabbed at the 3500 block of Juneway during a suspected robbery attempt, and Davon Douglas, 28, also stabbed, at the 1800 block of Eagle St. on Wednesday.
Finally, the MD USDOJ released their annual Criminal Prosecution Totals showing a sharp rise in prosecutions this year.

Roland Park Car Fire
Reports SpotCrime,
On Tuesday night, November 16, at 11:45 PM persons unknown set ablaze a stolen car in the 200 block of Oakdale. Some form of incendiary was apparently used as the car was engulfed in a ball of orange flame and then began to roll downhill. The crew of Baltimore Fire Department Engine 44 were on the scene within 2 minutes of the 911 call, and quickly doused the flames before anyone was hurt or further property damage was inflicted.

And in the city another teenager was shot in the stomach near St. Paul and Lexington streets, right next to the courthouse.

Question though: why was Jack Johnson being pursued by the Feds, but Sheila Dixon was charged by the state? And how can this motherflusher be back at work today?

Robo-callers, qu'est-ce que c'est ...
TDR reports that AG Doug Gansler filed a complaint against Universal Elections' "relax, everything is fine" robo-calls today in federal court, which could cost Henson et al $168 million. Deliteful: one of the calls happened to go to a U of MD professor of election law, who pointed out to a WBAL reporter that there's little precedent for prosecuting election robo-calls under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

October 27, 2010 – In one of his last judicial acts on Monday, the Honorable John N. Prevas sentenced Antoine Epps, 21, of the 5500 block of Force Road to 50 years in prison following his convictions in September for armed carjacking, robbery and gun counts. Judge Prevas sentenced Epps to 30 years in prison for the armed carjacking count, a consecutive 20 years for use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence count and a concurrent 20 years for the robbery deadly weapon count. A Baltimore jury convicted Epps September 10, 2010. The sentencing hearing conducted by Judge Prevas was his last judicial decision; he left the bench shortly after this hearing complaining of chest pain and died later that day. As he left the bench, he told attorneys waiting to start a trial to be on call.
On July 24, 2009, Terrence Royster gave a ride to defendant Antoine Epps and one of his friends. When Mr. Royster arrived to the location identified by the suspects, an unknown co-defendant pulled a gun on the victim and Antoine Epps removed the keys from the ignition. They then ordered Mr. Royster out of the vehicle and robbed him of some of his possessions. Mr. Epps began beating him with a handgun. After beating Mr. Epps, the defendant’s ordered him into the trunk of his vehicle and drove him around the City for about an hour.
When they finally stopped the vehicle, the defendants again ordered the victim out of the vehicle, made him strip naked, and continued to beat him with the handgun. According to the victim, he was hit over 50 times with the handgun. After they left, the victim walked and crawled to a nearby home trying to obtain help. Police located him in a fetal position, bleeding profusely from his head.
