The County is looking for suspects (and odds are they're in the city, don't you think?). First is Jerome Willis, left, who robbed an armored car with an accomplice and then drove off and left his buddy on the sidewalk! At right is an unknown suspect who robbed the bank branch inside the Giant on Loch Raven & Taylor Aves. in Towson on October 17.
Did anyone else here "Maryland Morning's" report today about that kid from PG County who died from an infected tooth earlier this year? I caught part of it and was sickened how there was never any mention of how, just maybe, the kid's mother should bear some responsibility for what happened. I'm not against government dental assistance for the poor, however if your kids have mouths full of rotting teeth then YOU are to blame when one of them gets a brain infection and dies. "Medicaid didn't help me enough" is not an excuse. Ah well, that whole case and the response to it is kind of symbolic of what's wrong with our society. We should be discouraging the most worthless elements of society from reproducing, but instead we subsidize it, and then don't hold bad parents accoumtable for not taking care of their children.

ReplyDeleteThe disparity between rich and poor over there is relatively amazing. The people who live in Hillendale vs. those in the Fairways, or who frequent the Country Club of Maryland or Calvert Hall.
Hillendale, specifically Northbrook, was designed for low income people. They have to live somewhere too!
ReplyDeletebut there's a taco bell over there. don't you know that poximity to taco bell is the number 1 factor in determining a neighborhood's desirability? especially in baltimore, where if you live anywhere in the center of the city you have to drive to the outskirts or beyond to find one.
ReplyDelete2 Women Guilty Of Witness Intimidation
ReplyDeleteTwo women have pleaded guilty to intimidating a witness in an attempted murder case.
Janice Jones, 27, and Dakia Frazier, 23, drove a third woman to the Baltimore Police Department's Eastern District station in August and ordered her to recant an incriminating statement she had given to police about Frazier's live-in boyfriend.
While speaking with detectives, the witness burst into tears and said she was recanting her statement under duress. Police arrested Jones and Frazier in the police station's parking lot.
Baltimore Circuit Judge Roger Brown on Wednesday sentenced the women to time served.
Frazier's boyfriend, Kevin Jackson, remains jailed without bail on armed robbery and attempted murder charges.

I wonder who is to blame about that half-assed sentence in the witness intimidation case? Was it the judge's fault, or did the SA's office offer them a sweet plea-bargain.

Culinary wasteland?!? I couldn't possibly disagree with you more. In fact, I'm now disappointed with the food in NYC compared to Bawlmer, which has, in my opinion, a great number of great restaurants.

There's lots of good food to be had in B'more. I know this city has lots of legitimate problems, but sometimes I feel like certain people feel the need to be negative no matter what.
ReplyDeleteYeah yeah I know, no jury will convict anyone of anything, so judges are forced to agree to ridiculous deals like two minutes for a serial killer, and we should all just be grateful for the two minutes. Even knowing this, I'm still just completely horrified. I doubt that witness will be alive a six months from now. And everyone will be all, boo hoo, witness intimidation is such a problem, we'd better form a committee about it.

Taco Bell is gross. Just put it right in the terlit and skip a step.
I think that a lack of resource is just as big a problem as stupid juries. I'm not sure of the exact number, but the B'more Circuit Court can only handle approximately 500 felony trials per year. Even if we had the toughest juries in the country the SA's office would still have to offer a huge number of plea deals or the system would grind to a halt (and let's face it, it ain't running too well as is!)
ReplyDeleteThat being said, the witness intimidation story shows that Pat Jessamy has some F___'d up priorities. Witness intimidation is probably the biggest problem the city's judicial system currently faces, and anybody who threatens a witness deserves to have the book thrown at them, even if it means having to plead out a different case that would have gone to trial.

ReplyDeleteTaco Bell is foul - and that's coming from someone that REALLY loves her nasty, greasy, fried foods. Chicken fingers and fries are a guilty pleasure; Taco Bell is taste bud assassination.
As a vegetarian, I ... well, I ain't got nothin'. I'm going to take my wife to Fogo de Chao at some point - I think she'd love it. Hopefully, excluding the "unlimited servings of 15 different delectable cuts of fire-roasted meats," I'll be able to fill up on their "sumptuous buffet of gourmet salads and fresh-cut vegetables, and a variety of Brazilian side dishes." I hear good things.

I haven't found any burrito places yet, however I'd suggest checking out the place that won the Citypaper's Best of Baltimore award for best mexican. I've heard nothing but good things about them.
ReplyDeleteThere's no Peruvian chicken that I know of in Fells, however I have seen a couple of places in Highlandtown on Eastern Ave. that seem to have a mostly immigrant clientelle. I'll have to try them out sometime.
I THINK Kawasaki Cafe in Fells Point has tonkatsu as well, but I'm not sure, and I can't find a website for them.

ReplyDelete...and again, authenticity may be an issue, but Taco Fiesta in Harbor East is pretty good, their burritos are huge, and there's a pretty decent salsa bar.

ReplyDeleteThe Mid-Town one (on Charles St) is no more, but the Fells Pt cafe reopened. Looks like most of the violation were at the Charles St address, which had different management, but all the owners pled guilty to Fed charges & paid a bunch of money. It took us a while to go back to the Cafe, but we just couldn't help it! So good. So good!
