January 29

An unidentified man was shot and killed near the corner of Church Rd. and Searles Rd. in Dundalk.
UPDATE: He was ID'd as 16-year-old Joshua Gibson.

Gary L. Hatfield was, indeed, murdered while working at a video store in Finksburg.

An off-duty AAC cop is being held for some fatal hit-and-run action.

Thomas Kaiser was indicted on a bunch of perv charges, including sending a victim to Pennsylvania to be molested by alleged perv Bruce Krumrine.

In case you missed it: Brandon Morris got life without parole, and Jeffery Wroten's family isn't happy.

A man and a woman were shot as they were walking into a house in the 3100 block of Chelsea Terr. early this morning.

A 22-year-old man was shot in the 800 block of W. Saratoga St. during a botched robbery on Sunday morning.

Also in the Blotter (above link), some breaking and entering and sleeping and peeing in Pikesville.

Huh. An inquiry found that a government agency screwed up in the case of Bryanna Harris. Imagine that.

And more government incompetence: Public housing is overrun with drug dealers and other criminals.

  1. Good story about the American bailbond system, in the NYTimes.

    Article.

  2. I don't suppose anyone's heard more about the missing Doctor Fertsch? I guess as it's been a week she's off the news radar.

  3. I've heard nothing more about Dr. Fertsch since the Sun ran the story saying she might be suicidal. There's a Craigslist message from 1/23 asking for info, and a few stray postings online, but nothing substantial.

I'll see if I can find any info in the next day or two.

  4. Dr. Fertsch is said to have vanished around Union Memorial Hospital.

If she headed north or west, I'm sure she would have been appropriately directed by some kind soul.

If she wandered east or south, she's in some trouble.

Better Waverly's kinda assault-heavy these days.

  12. God forgive me, but I laughed myself silly at the story of the guy in Pikesville who found a pissy drunk asleep on his couch.

  13. When your home is not safe to leave and go to work, go shopping, go do anything productive, people tend to camp out at home.

Camping out at home is just about never the optimal use of their time. Consequently, they tend to become marginal producers, which makes a place like Baltimore a lousy labor pool.

This is why really sound municipalities see to basic public safety first. It results in higher personal productivity which allows for a higher per capita income, which makes other public services possible.

Or, you could choose to be Baltimore.

    'It's not safe here. ...

  14. bmorecareful, while Stephen's answer was much more poetic than mine, Dundalk is southeast of Southeast Baltimore. If you're driving north on 895/95 and see the big water tower to your right (it says "Duke" now; it used to say GM), that's the old GM plant in Dundalk.

  15. taotechuck, re the Craiglist post, that was me, so no joy there. The news articles had her last seen near Union Memorial because her house is on Abell near Union Memorial. I'm guessing she was not a victim of a crime per se. I know that people vanish every day, but to have your doctor, who've you known for years, reported missing by her family, is disconcerting to say the least. She was a nice lady who was having a really shitty time of it, and I hope she turns up all right soon.

Sorry to derail the comments section, please return to your regularly scheduled murder and mayhem.
