Checkpoints in DC

Interesting article from the Post about police tactics to help stop a streak of violence in DC's Trinidad neighborhood.

  1. how is this different than the "safe zones" thing they used to do (still do? i don't know) here and elsewhere? i don't understand why people are acting like this is some unprecedented first step toward fascism or something.

  2. Oh, and here's another reason why the local criminal justice apparatus cannot succeed: they're drawing cops from the bottom of the barrel to save a few shekels. 'Course, there go another 100 cases and another 100 hoodlums onto the street. Whatta great savings!

  3. This Virginia native left Baltimore for Des Moines, Iowa, last September. "Why move to the midwest?" You people have no clue. Don't spoil my secret. Murders for this city of 200,000+ last year was, I think, six. Clean City, parks everywhere, rivers, canoeing, fishing, city-wide bike trails... Never returning to Baltimore, priceless!
