A man was shot in the thigh on The Alameda early this morning. The Sun's description of the location reminds me of an 8th grade story problem. "If a man is two blocks north of East Northern Parkway, walks west on Walker to Northwood, then walks south toward East Lake, what direction will he be facing when he gets shot?"
Two teens were accidentally shot by police during a drug investigation in HoCo's "well-kept Pleasant Chase neighborhood." (Are there poorly kept neighborhoods in HoCo? Shit, even the trailer parks on Rt. 1 are classier than my city neighborhood.)
The Blackwells don't Talkwell.
PDJ: Michael S. Pollard's roommate at the Naval Academy described the horrors of opening a file named "Boy Party" while borrowing Pollard's computer. The roommate made a point of telling the court that "It looked like 13-, 14-year-olds engaging in sexual acts ... but I'm no expert in child pornography."
Hey, finally some good people of Park Heights got recognized in the news!
Wow. Did Marty Bass really compare dropping viewership for TV news stations to bombing Hiroshima? It's been a while since I busted out with my favorite word, but I've been provoked: Marty, you're a douchebag.

Marty, you're a douchebag.
Make that an undercover-cop propositioning douchebag.
Ha, I predicted that the Blackwell punks wouldn't cooperate with the police. I'm starting to wish those two thugs hadn't been found.
where are all th crips? or is everyone a blood in baltimore? lol you see the guys in red all the time but no blue...isnt barclay a crip neighberhood (or atleast a anti-blood one)?
Barclay is mostly a burnt neighborhood. It burned some more last night.
Its refugees have largely migrated north into Charles Village's Harwood section. It is sustantially Blood-y, but Black Gorilla Family contests that.
Better (disputably) Waverly is about tiny, impotent, independent sets who keep getting popped. They act as a buffer.
Going north along Old York Rd., you have observable Crip sets up to Pen Lucy.
But recall that Blood and Crip sets here are not as insitutional as they are nationally. They're still disaggegate small potatoes.
It'll be interesting to see whether Tree Top fills in its ranks through recruitment or whether rivals fill the power vacuum and grow in size.
i like crips more then bloods lol for some reason i get the feeling that the "bloods" are a bunch of wannabees that grab a rag from 7-11 and get there friends to join in...where as the crips are smaller in size which could mean more authanticity lol...i can believe i actually prefer one gang of another...maybe bc all the red grafiiti around my house PISSES me off!!! i should grab some blue spray paint and X it out, causing a fabricated gang war...mcnulty style!!!
Thank goodness the Calvert Street TP factory is focusing on the real issues...
No wonder that paper is hardly taken seriously.
Dan Rodricks discusses the War on Drugs in his most recent column. I'm still rather torn on the issue to be honest.
Have any of you listened to his show by the way? I've been tempted to but I worry that I'll end up putting my fist through my computer if I did.
And Ppatin, we should have been suspicious of the little dears being thugs the moment Warren Brown got his mitts involved.
To give Marty the benefit of the doubt, the quote is from 20 years ago, and based on the memory of Olesker (Questionable source IMHO). But the quote fits Marty's style.
BTW Jessup is the hood of HoCo.
I just did a real estate search for anything less than $350,000 in Jessup. There were 27 matches, the cheapest of which is a 1 bedroom 1 bath "fixer-upper/handyman special" for $206,000.
That's some damned fine squalor you've got out there!
I thought that Jessup was in Anne Arundel County?
Good news, Ed Norris is now going to be on from 3 to 6 PM. Should make for better listening on my drive home from work.
You could become a major slumlord in Baltimore with $206K if you pick the "right" neighborhoods...
At least there you know that all the hoodlum garbage is in the jail and not in the streets...
My favorite sociologist did a nice write-up on anti-gang legislation and a common police strategy to controlling gangs.
And that's precisely why the murder stats are down:
the Baltimore Police have conceded the criminals their nonlethal criminal activities in exchange for collective responsibility for murders.
Bad deal. Bad for Baltimore City.
"... video displayed two "adolescent-looking" boys on a bed engaging in sex acts ..."
Ewwwww, now if it were chicks ....
Everything is relative.
There are new subdivisions of 50-100 homes just outside of Columbia where in a down market they had to slash prices to start at $1 million. This dosen't even get into Western HoCo where people get 3-5 acres and build custom homes in the 10K+ sq foot range. HoCo there is a home improvment show every year (with a cover charge) that sells such things as granite swimming pools.
You ask How can anyone afford this? 2 things play into it; 1) most family's have 2 earners both of which are college educatedand 2) You start off somewhere else and keep moving up. After a few years and a few imprtovements you sell that house somewhere else and get a small townhouse in HoCo. After 3-5 years you move up to a small single family home, and then in another 3-5 years you can move up to a bigger home.
At each step you are buying something that needs some TLC and updating. On my street most of the neighbors do some type of home improvement really well because they did it on their old house. One neighbor is great with tiling, one is good a carpentry and dry wall. Me, I do electrical. You help each other out and when the value of your house goes up the rising tide will lift their house as well.
It also helps that a majority of the people who commute out of HoCo go south to DC. Last time I really looked DC(including MD and VA burbs) paid 10-20% more for the same job as Baltimore.
ppatin, Jessup (as in the prison) is in AA County. Just like Laurel is in HoCo, AA, and PG. I have a friend who lives in Laurel and he has started that you can tell the difference when you go from AA or HoCo into PG county.
