Mosby Defeats Bernstein!

Anthony Brown, the man who misplaced $90 million, secured the gubernatorial nomination, and Heather Mizeur walked down a long hall. The sitting judges kept their seats, for now. Brian Frosh beat Mr. Boat Proposal. And in an upset that few-- least of all the incumbent-- saw coming, Marilyn Mosby beat State's Attorney Gregg Bernstein, with 1/4th of the cash and zero management experience. What the heck happened? As the Brew opines, Mosby's path was actually pretty similar to Bernstein's: take on an over-confident incumbent, seize on the outrageous stories that pique interest, rack up endorsements, sympathize with victims eye-to-eye. I wonder if Jayne Miller's girlfriend will get her job back now?

Speaking of criminals, the two who were running-- Don "Delegate Drinky Dranky" and Julius Henson, both lost.

Two were arrested for the shooting on Monastery (I think they mean 6/22)-

Ashani John Salmon
A very short man named Ashani John Salmon is sought in connection with the shooting at Peju's Kitchen and Lounge in Gwynn Oak, call police if you see him.

Police are looking for whomever assaulted Kyndyl Fauntleroy as he left the Arabian Nights Hookah Lounge on Light Street this past Sunday.
Nicholas Ishmael

A police cadet, one Nicholas Ishmael, aged 20, has been charged with stealing hillbilly heroin from the county evidence vault. And stealing cash. Two of his cousins also face drug charges. Tsk!

Depressing: 62 percent of SWAT raids are ISO drugs, and 36 percent of raids recover no contraband of any kind.

Well, that's nice, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled today that police can't search the cellphones of people they arrest without a warrant.

Big pimpin leads to big arrestin. Five alleged pimps were arrested yesterday, one in Baltimore county and four in PGC. Oh, and they were pimping children.

One Derrick James Jackson was arrested in the county for brandishing a gun* during a road rage incident on 695. So, wonder what happened to the New Jersey cop road-rager Detective Joseph Walker? Haven't heard anything about that case since February.

'Calm down, your girl is hot looking'

 Larry Markez
Missing 13-year-old boy, Larry Markez (sp?), last seen on East Preston St.

A second arrest for the murder of Cheesecake Factory employee Anthony Black,* one Derek Schuler, who allegedly helped stab Black to death for objecting to his and his friend's drunken sidewalk venery.

Bro Derek.
Larry Horton took an axe* and gave Ryan Jackson 24 whacks. When she heard what he had done, his mother wailed, "not my son!"

Awful: alleged victim of a road-rage murder Anthony Cannady was shot in the back in front of his two daughters.

"I've left this to my God's will,*" said Mimi Quezada, mother of two of the children allegedly slain by Espinoza/Canela, and the only one of the family to not say Policarpio didn't do it. Rather remarkable that after almost a decade no one but she in the family apparently speaks any English, ¿no?

Tiffany Linder
Doubling down like a KFC sandwich, O'Malley repeated to reporters that he supports the state's prison chief, Gary Maynard, and called the BGF indictments "a very positive development." Mmkay. From the perpetual o'candidiate I can almost understand that tone, but why the flattering edvertorial in the Sun*? Is he the Mata Hari of Baltimore, with dirt on everyone in town? And whoa, one of Bulldog's babymoms, Tiffany Linder, also made a court appearance. Eight months pregnant is no joke-- she looks like she's fixing to strangle Jayne Miller with a hemorrhoid.

Guns were seized by postal inspectors at 4903 St. George's Ave (in the NE) in a hush-hush Federal investigation.

D'oh! Robber steals from Charles Street Safeway, assaults security guard, drops and leaves his ID behind.

You can now report your car break-ins online so as to proceed to have them not investigated more efficiently.

Prepare your diddleyhole: Baltimore Redditors are swapping Baltimore Detention Center stories.

Street life, corporate life, life sentences

"Urban terrorist"/Grand Am driving career stick-up brothers Evan and Christopher Foreman started out robbing drug dealers and illegal immigrants, likely mentored in the robbing arts by brothers Michael, 45, and Brian, 39. The fraternal team went on to stage some very thought-out robberies of check-cashing stores, cash-for-gold stores and banks. Evan was sentenced to 24 years and 6 months* in the federal system, Michael got 12 years, Brian 4 1/4 years.
For his part, Judge James Brednar called Christopher Foreman "depraved," and quipped, "you don't dip your toe in the water of bank robbery."
"I don't think the court knows the street life," remarked his mother Darraux Horton, 59, who started her parenting career at age 14.

One Marcus Troy Evans, left, was arrested for a Christmas-day beating of a gay man on North Milton Avenue. Apparently Evans was arrested two days after the beating on drug charges but was released on bail six days ago, in spite of the new drug charges, recent domestic violence charges and a rap sheet that includes numerous assaults, gun charges and burglaries. What dingdong of a judge made that call, I wonder? His trial will be at 8:30 a.m. on Jan 29th at 1400 N. Avenue room 3. As an aside, I see Evans' bail bondsman was Lee Dixon was an agent for Milton Tillman's Four Aces bail bonds. Now that Tillman and son are in the federal pen I see Lee Dixon's working for what's been renamed* as Global Surety and Services, but is still a subsidiary of FCS of Houston, TX. It looks like they're hiring new "agents" if you're ISO a career change. It sounds like it's pretty much like being an insurance agent, only your client is the court and gay-bashing, drug-dealing burglars are your beachfront real estate.

Speaking of gay-bashing, outspoken homohater Don Dwyer says he "sought help" following the wreck of The Legislator; he's attended AA meetings and an alcohol intervention class (like, the same class every person arrested on alcohol-related charges has to go to?).  Happiest of all, he also says he's not planning to run for re-election.

Fenton leafs through the Dead Man Inc. corporate handbook* following an evening trailing the police and a BPD-TV camera crew en route to a shooting on Mannasota Avenue, where victims were transported to the hospital by "private car." (Meaning someone didn't want to wait for the ambalance and drove them to the hospital?)

One man turned himself in and two more were arrested* on charges related to a Thanksgiving road rage incident in Owings Mills.

In PGC you can trade Tide® for crack.

O'Malley says that the DP in MD is two votes close to repeal.

152

A fatal shooting in the 500 block of Coventry Road* in the SW, a fatal shooting on Buena Vista that was determined to be a suicide, nonfatal shootings on the 4200 block of N. Charles (right between Guilford and Tuscany-Cantebury) and a shooting following a bar fight on 200 block of South Pulaski St.

Murder victim #151 Freddie King was ID'd as the father* of Georgetown's Tyshell King, one of the country's top basketball recruits. "King had done time in prison — court records show he received seven years in 1996 for a drug distribution conviction — and that he was focused on his [child] having a better life."

On Friday one Marcus Lynch was found guilty of raping a 13-year-old in Frank Bocek Park. Lynch also tried to strangle her, but was run off when passers-by heard her screaming.

The city will pay $500,000 to an elderly couple, Aubrey and Lena Knox, who police accused of kidnapping their grandchild, and who were kept at Central Booking even after the grandchild was found in another state.

The grandson of murdered octogenarians Vauhgn and Marjorie Pepper is now officially a suspect in their deaths; Matthew Long, 31, was found in Oklahoma but is in a coma following a suicide attempt.

GOTTA GET TO YANKEE CANDLE!! -- out on the pale swamp, a Volkswagen-driving woman was punched in the face then squashed by the Oldsmobile of a woman who felt the victim had stolen her parking place. Also hit was a bystander who was writing down משוגע's information.

A man who was shot by police when he tried to run over an officer with his car was ID'd as Steven Gary, 45, of Pikesville

There's an idea: a guy in Houston paid his speed camera ticket with 137 dollar bills folded into pigs.

April 12

"Of the 42 people charged with gun crimes in Baltimore between Jan. 1 and March 21 of this year, 24 suspects — or 57 percent — had been previously charged with gun crimes a total of 52 times."
How'd this happen? They're out on bail and out of jail, and that's the way it goes.

Tavon Campbell, 20, was shot to death shortly after midnight in the 2600 block of E. Madison St.

"John Daughtry, 25, was identified Tuesday as the man shot in the chest at an unknown location about 6 p.m. Monday, then staggered to his home in the 100 block of S. Morley St." ; also, a 20-year-old man was shot in the chest but survived.

WBAL reported at noon that two women were shot while walking on the West side, no motive or suspects.

A "suspicious body" was found by firefighters at 4 a.m. in the basement of a house in the 2600 block of West Cold Spring Lane (aka Coldspring Avenue). Wonder if we'll ever hear of it again ... ?

Yesterday's Fredneck road rage victims were ID'd as driver Christian M. Luciano, 28, and passenger Lindsay L. Bender, 25, both from Harrisburg PA. Speaking of road rage, sound advice the Sun's Googled for us from the Dane County Sheriff's Office in Madison, Wis.):
birdAlmost nothing makes another driver angrier than an obscene gesture ... Avoid making any gestures that might anger another driver, even 'harmless' expressions of irritation like shaking your head.
(JZ's video on the link above is actually about Duke lax. Isn't it nice how Reade Seligmann says "If police officers and a district attorney can systematically railroad us with absolutely no evidence whatsoever, I can’t imagine what they’d do to people who do not have the resources to defend themselves.")

April 11

kfcRozza Alston, 29, of the 1600 block of Saint Paul Street, pled not guilty at arraignment today. He was criminally charged March 16, 2007 with attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder, assault, armed robbery and plain-old robbery. Court documents allege that on January 26, 2007 Alston accosted an elderly female victim in the parking lot of a Kentucky Fried Chicken located at 1821 Saint Paul Street demanding her purse. When the victim refused, he allegedly stabbed her numerous times in her hand, arm and chest. Police arrested Alston on February 3.

Jean Sierra, 21, of Owings Mills, MD pled not guilty at arraignment today. He was indicted by the Baltimore City Grand Jury for multiple counts of robbery, armed robbery and assault. Court documents allege that on January 16, at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sierra pointed a handgun at a group of three off-duty law-enforcement officers, (Jason E. Dietsch of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Virginia state trooper and bagpipe player Michael McCann, and a Marie Burkhead, all in town for the funeral of Troy L. Chesley Sr) with the intent to rob them in the 2800 block of O'Donnell Street in busy Canton Square. Police responded and searched the area and detained Sierra, who was then allegedly identified by the victims. Sierra remains held without bail at the Baltimore City Detention Center.

Speaking of the garbage problem, how great would that be if we could ban plastic bags.

No, it isn't an old headline... charges will finally be officially dropped against David Evans of Bethesda and two other Duke lax players indicted for rape and kidnapping in May of last year.

Rodricks: Community "call-in" urges criminals of the Western to get a clue.

PdJ: CarlCo's James Allen Gregory, 62, has been released from jail after serving 27 months of a 36-month sentence for a violation of parole in Washington State. Gregory violated parole by being hired as a handyman at the Rainbows and Reasons daycare center in Westminster in 2001, where he was charged with sexually abusing two 3-year-old girls at the day-care center and other locations and was given a 15-year suspended sentence. It's all very confusing.

Two people were killed by a white man in a basball hat during a Fredneck road-rage incident.

bleeds patchBaltimore Crime collectable: the "Baltimore City Police / Policing the City that Bleeds" patch. Notes the description: "This patch was designed by some of the Baltimore City Police Department Officers because of the high Homicide rate in Baltimore City. They feel they have no support from the Mayor or City Council, so this was a patch that was designed to show their displeasure with the lack of support."
