January 14

A vieweing is scheduled today for murdered detective Troy Chesley.

Hammy wants more "community policing." He even took time from his busy meeting schedule to meet with career offenders and warn them.

Likes: federally funded trips to Miami Beach and San Francisco. Dislikes: Those annoying kids who keep causing trouble.

A look at the policies regarding alleged sex offenders in HoCo schools.

No, dammit... she said "Outrage," not "Outage."

  1. ""Violent people use guns and commit holdups in our community. We have to identify who they are," said Baltimore City Police Commissioner Leonard Hamm."

....He's smart, this guy. Where'd he learn to police, from a school on the back of a matchbook?

"Some of Hamm's suggestions also include providing more juvenile services so children won't turn to crime."

...Such an incredible idea again. If only he had figured out stuff like this, say... a long time ago?

Perhaps it isn't that we have smarter criminals here, just dumber leadership.

  2. If you can afford to relocate, would you like to move out of the city this year?

Actually, we can't afford to relocate, but my wife, my daughter and I are probably going to do it anyway. We've been looking for a decent job in Cumberland and coming up empty for the past year.

So far, there have been two murders and a carjacking in Brooklyn this year - not to mention the whores who circle my block day and night. Now, I'm thinking about moving to Cumberland first and finding a job second.

  3. Just so that we all 'get it', the number of homicides in lil' Baltimore in the first week and a half is equal to all the murders in:

    1 Quarter in Pittsburgh
    2 Mos. in Charlotte, NC
    4 Mos. in San Diego
    6 Mos. in Toledo, OH
7 Mos. in San Jose, Ca

San Jose has 1.5 xs our population
San Diego has twice our population
    Charlotte's about the same size

Cumberland hasn't had that many in over a decade.

  4. Another murder and a failed attempt in CHM, both in broad daylight.

And as for the Commissioner's insinuation that violent crime doesn't happen unless you're engaged in a crime, see today's blotter for all the gun incidents, which the Commish says we shouldn't hold against him.

  5. At one point I thought that Baltimore had a chance, but things don't look good at all.

The corruption in local government, police and the mayor's office is too much to ever accomplish anything. They are always too scared about offending this group or that to make a solid stand or decision on anything. Not to mention that the higher-ups are just trying to peel off their piece without getting damaged.

I am the first to admit that there is corruption, lies and a-hole officials in any government organization, I'm not that naieve. However, in Baltimore the crime has gotten so bad that it reaches into the very fabric of this society. How can that be reversed? Not by talk, I know that!

Face it people, this city does not have a chance if we continue on this road. No one is going to come and save us, there is no man (or woman) on a white horse, there is no cavalry to call. We have not helped ourselves, we ARE not helping ourselves...and we if we don't care, why should anyone else.

This blog is all fine and dandy, we can track crime all day and talk about the issues...but there is no one left to hit the street and fight the crime, call out the politicians or help bring this city back. It's clear that I'm not going to do it and neither are you. And why should we?...it's way too dangerous!! A handful of suburban businesspeople can't stop crime in an impoverished city! Hell, we can't even keep it contained!!

I am feeling the frustration that (as far as I can see) only a FEW people feel. Sure, alot of folks SAY that they are frustrated...but the fact is they are dissappointed that someone ELSE isn't doing something. "Why have they not done anything?" - "Where is the so-and-so?" - "Who will stop this?"

    THE ANSWER IS YOU!!

GET OFF YOUR ASSES AND DO SOMETHING ALREADY!!

WE'VE TALKED THE TALK, NOW LETS WALK THE WALK.

Otherwise we lose what was once a great city.

    -D

(sorry for such a long rant)

  6. I'd like to see this city placed under administrative receivership by the State as it has no inclinination to do its damn job. The problem is that we've just elected the most directly responsible culprit to the governorship.

  8. I have to agree with "anonymous rant", the city AND county are ridiculous and something must be done. I too feel the frustration.

jamietab is also correct, media attention and forcing the issue are the only way to get people motivated for change.
