Daughters of a 62-year-old rape victim have taken it upon themselves to publish a sketch of the suspect (left) who attacked their mother in the driveway of her Northwest home with a barbecue fork. They claim police have "discouraged" them from publicizing the sketch.Officer Rodney Price, who pled guilty in 2002 to the first-degree murder of Tristan Little (who was having an affair with Price's wife), asked the court to reduce his 50-year sentence.
The murder and child abuse trial of Nathaniel Broadway, 26, of E. 31st Street, is scheduled to begin at 9 tomorrow morning before Judge Allen L. Schwait. On June 7, 2004 Broadway and Sierra Swann, the parents of infant twin girls, were indicted for first-degree murder and child abuse in connection with the death of their one-month-old twins. The indictment charges them with the murders of Emmoney Broadway and Emmonea Broadway on May 11, 2004 at their residence. On February 13 Sierra Swann pled guilty to two counts of child abuse resulting in death and she is scheduled to be sentenced on May 30. Nathaniel Broadway and Sierra Swann are being held without bail at the Baltimore City Detention Center.
The judge in the case of Terry Jones, a 24-year-old man accused of beating his 15-year-old girlfriend to death has reversed her decision and now will allow DNA evidence (warning: story rife with typos). Meanwhile, during jury selection this afternoon, defendant Jones became ill and was transported to the hospital for medical care. The matter has been continued until tomorrow and will be heard in Administrative Court.

I think I'm getting this one right, but it seems too absurd to be true: David Allen Cullum was charged with first degree murder for shooting his stepsister's boyfriend yesterday. The boyfriend, Billy Wayne Corbitt, had beaten her, threatened to kill her, come to Cullum's house with a gun, and continued to advance on Cullum even after he had fired a warning shot. I guess Cullum was supposed to stand there and watch his sister get murdered by Corbitt.

Terry Johnson is 24 and he is accused of beating his FIFTEEN year old girlfriend to death. When I do I get to beat her parents to death for letting her date a 24-year-old? At any rate, he's not getting off on a "technicality." If he gets off it is due to prosecutorial misconduct. As I understand it, the only solid evidence against him is DNA evidence. The man has an absolute right to see how that evidence was collected and processed. His lawyer had been asking the state for that information for months. The State not only failed to give it to him, it lied to the judge and said that it had when in fact it hadn't.
From what little I understand of self-defense laws in Maryland, one has an obligation to retreat before using deadly force. It sounds like Mr. Cullum confronted Corbitt OUTSIDE of Cullum's house. If Cullum didn't retreat first (and then shoot Corbitt if Corbitt entered the house), it doesn't sound like Cullum met the legal requirements for a self-defense shooting.
Also, I believe I read somewhere that all homicides are charged as first degree murders by the police, then reduced later by the district attorneys (I read that in "Homicide" by David Simon).
Of course what I know about any of this is no where near expert, I'm sure galt can offer a more knowledgeable explanation. But from my very casual knowledge of those laws, that sounds like what might've happened.
I am so appalled that the murder of a baby was covered by no one until Anna Ditkoff. It's a cold, cold town.
well, it sounds like Terry Johnson's lawyer will get plenty of time to look at how the DNA was collected and processed. He had a medical condition that caused him to go to the hospital, thereby delaying the trial. Maybe now the jury will get to hear all the evidence and determine the truth!
Before people going talking about self defense and people being heroes they should try knowing what they are talking about.billy was one of the sweetest people i ever met. he was a good dad who just never could catch a break.As for the man who shot may friend Billy Corbitt may you spend the rest of your life in jail and your sister deserves the same if not worse. People like this should be locked away forever i hope when your day comes to die it is just as cold and oncalled for.
THE WHOLE WORLD SHOULD REMEBER BILLY CORBITT WAS A GOOD MAN WHO TOOK MORE ABUSE AT THE HANDS OF HIS GIRLFRIEND THEN ANY ONE MAN SHOULD. IF BILLY DIDNT SHOOT FIRST HE DIDNT HAVE A GUN HE WOULD NEVER HAVE HURT THAT NASTY WOMEN. SHE CHOSE TO HAVE HIM KILLED SHE SHOULD BE IN JAIL ALONG SIDE HE MESSED UP BROTHER REST IN PEACE BILLY KNOW THAT THOSE WHO KNEW AND LOVED YOU KNOW THE TRUTH AND WILL NEVER FORGET YOU.
