A Baltimore City jury yesterday convicted Martin Michael Morgan, 18, of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The jury deliberated for approximately two days following three days of testimony. Judge Shirley Watts scheduled sentencing for March 29. On March 12, 2004 Morgan shot to death Wade Walker, 32, inside a carryout in the 3700 block of West Belvedere Avenue. A co-defendant in this case, James Murphy, pled guilty January 10, 2005 to second-degree murder and is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence. Morgan is also charged with the attempted first-degree murder of a 16-year old victim who was shot on March 6, 2004 in the 3700 block of Beehler Avenue. That trial is pending.

Baltimore's new mentoring program called "Winning Teams" will be the subject of a reality show/ documentary filmed by Morgan State students and sponsored by 92Q. You just can't make that kind of thing up. The program will begin with a Talent Showcase at Harlem Park Middle School tonight at 5.

I think the appropriate term is "hell hole."
Canned Hamm and Martin for Maryland have identified the source of Baltimore's crime problem! It's grenade launchers and other weapons that fire multiple rounds. See http://wbal.com/news/story.asp?articleid=40716
Martin O'Malley claims: "We're becoming a healthier and safer place to live." in a photo-op with Men's Fitness, which thinks Charm City is healthful, even if its occupants are very, very unhealthy.
SafER, or safe? I mean, most anything is better than where we've been. I want to know when we're going to commit to making Baltimore decent.
Galt, I just want to say I love your ranty ways, and I probably would have abandoned this project a long time ago if it wasn't for you reassuring me that someone else cares about making this a decent town.
Hi Insiderout,
I read the Hammy article you mentioned above. The thing that gets me is, if they ban weapons, where do they think that will stop any crime?????? The criminals will still have all they want, and only we the law abiding citizens will be deprived of the chance to defend ourselves. Tell me, if someone enters my home with a gun, or lets say without a gun, but they are on my property with intent to commit a crime, and I shoot them, I have commited murder, and can go to jail, or worse yet... I don't kill them just injure them, they will sue the hell out of me,am correct? I can't believe, Oh, there is that word again "believe". Anyway, I can't understand how these liberal idiots think gun control will keep us safe, criminals get what ever the hell they want!!!! guns, drugs, anything, it's all plentyful here in Charm City. BTW why do they call this place Charm Shity...Oppps slipped there Tee Heee.
Anon,
I was being sarcastic about Hamm and O'Malley talking about a ban on assault weapons. They are not the problem in Baltimore. Hamm even said that the city only seized 22 assault weapons last year, and that most of the gun crimes are committed with other types of weapons. It seems ridiculous that Hamm would spend his time lobbying state legislators for an assault ban when there are so many other more important concerns in the city. It goes further to show how Hamm is merely O'Malley's patsy. O'Malley orchestrated the news conference only for his campaign for Governor - a ban on assault weapons will do little if anything to help Baltimore City. O'Malley stopped caring for the City 2-3 years ago when he decided he wanted to become Governor and Baltimore City residents have felt the ill effects.
