according to wjz, some woman got stabbed to death in govans last night.
Sobering statistics time again, guys.
Every year about 10,000 jailbirds return to roost in Baltimore City.
The population is now around 615,000 total, About 325,000 of those are female, who overwhelmingly don't make up the prison population. About 100,000 of those remaining are non-afro-american and substantially do not make up the prison population (notable exceptions being Hamden and Pigtown).
Of the remaining 188,000 or so black males, about 48,000 are juveniles. Doesn't mean they're not hoodlums, just means they're not part of the adult stats. At least 27,000 of those remaining are over the age of 55,000 and therefore do not substantially make up the prison population.
This leaves you with an eligible population of about 113,000 adult, nonsenior, afroamerican males in town, of whom 10,000 just got out of prison, with another 10,000 from a year before, etc, etc.
So, when you walk down the street and encounter on a dark night a Baltimorean who is not a teenage girl, or an infant, or an octagenarian, you face a very prospect that he is a hoodlum. No guarantee, and for all you know the hoods are actually the 90 year-old vietnamese gals, but I doubt it.
A reasonable person is going to feel fairly ... uncomfortable in the presence of Baltimore males. In particular, if the City shoos them away from the harbor, and the stadia, and the Mayor's house, and the white enclaves in North Balto., and Johns Hopkins, Loyola, and Notre Dame, then by selection the likelihood that the guys you run into almost anywhere else in town are likely to bring you trouble gets... pretty high. I mean, hey, if we're gonna be surrounded by criminals, shouldn't we be paid for it, just like all the other correctional officers?
Stabbed to death in Govans, shot in the chest in Lower Waverly, shot in the head on Montpelier, bullets through the walls on 37th... yeah, what a week... just call the Greenmount corridor Little Fallujah.
hey, i know a couple of guys over fifty five thousand years old that are still in the game. i even know one dude who's over a billion years old and still works a corner!
jk :)
FYI - The Daily Record reports today about a '$20 million lawsuit filed by a Baltimore police officer against the City. He claims that at least four fellow officers used a search warrant obtained with a perjured affidavit to burst into his home and hold him and his wife at gunpoint.'
