September 7

colin jacksonAAC police are asking for the public's help to find 6-year-old Colin Jackson, left, kidnapped by his non-custodial parent. They're believed to be in a 1992 Chevrolet Blazer, with Maryland tags A184479.

Blarf! It's the BCrime diet plan... every time you have an appetite, read this article about Richard Lewis Marks' 30+ years of pedophilia. Hork! Heave!

A stolen-car chase yesterday ended with police shooting out one of the car's windows on Pratt Street; the driver was arrested. This is intuguing: "an electronic scanning device mounted on the police vehicle indicated that [the car had] been stolen." So futuristic!

An 18-year-old arrested for murder and a Woodlawn home-invasion robbery in the Blotter.

Kenneth Beauchamp of Dundalk, wanted in the murder of Patrick Pearce III of Rosedale, was arrested in Ohio.

WYPR: "Crime Anxiety Grips Three Baltimore Neighborhoods"
(only three? Finally some good news!)

Ellicott City gallery owner/Ponzi schemer Thomas H. Akins got 6 1/2 years in the federal pen for his "Art Investment Program."

Politics
Janis: when it comes to elections, voter turnout is what counts. In '06 MD's turnout was 47.3 percent, not much worse than the US average. Wonder what it is in the city? One Oz Bengur says "a third," but doesn't source that number.

The Richard Lewis Marks story really pisses me off. Supposedly he was sentenced to 25 years without parole for a crime that occured back in 1991. If that's the case then why was he freed this year. 1991 + 25 doesn't equal 2007! This creep somehow got nearly a decade of time knocked off of a "no parole" sentence!

the articles i read attributed it to "diminution credits." i vaguely recall that being kind of a hot button issue a few years ago and think the system might have gotten overhauled or something.

Also in the marks story is this little gem...

"Although the registry was not created until 1995, the legislature decided to retroactively add anyone convicted of a sex crime as of Oct. 1, 2001, he said."

Retraoactive = comes before
1995 < 2001

I said it before, I'll say it again, the Sun needs to hire some editors...

My high school english teachers would have torn this to pieces.

"the legislature decided to retroactively add anyone convicted of a sex crime"

Isn't that unconstitutional?

Anne Arundel County Police busted four women for prostitution after they advertised their services on Craigslist. Just what we need, more effort put into stopping victimless crimes!

Richard Lewis Marks is a pedophile sexual predator and will be one the rest of his life. There is NO possibility that he can ever be reprogrammed to satisfy his desires on anyone other than children. Anyone involved in not keeping him safe, behind bars the rest of his life is an accomplice in his next molestion. What a joke 25 yrs reduced in half!

While I agree with you, to a certain extent, that prostitution is a victimless crime, it is not necessarily victimless when they're conducting their business in a residential area. For instance, I live five doors down from a house that is being rented out to known prostitutes in Patterson Park. The hookers generally loiter around three or four city blocks and attract seedy individuals. Also, their pimps deal drugs from this same area. So, I could argue that prostitutes have a negative impact on city homeowners who are trying to improve their neighborhoods.

I absolutely agree with you about streetwalkers. Just because I'm cool with two consenting adults doing something in private doesn't mean it's ok for them to conduct their business out in the open. As long as they advertise online though, or keep it in designated non-residential areas I really don't care if people want to sell sex. After all, it's perfectly legal to give it away for free...

Also, guys who engage in pimping deserve to have their balls chopped off and flushed down a storm drain.

I think you should take down the link to the unsourced allegation that Baltimore City counted 5,000+ more votes than people who enterred the voting booths.

that blog post also says that " 1996, 11% of Maryland's votes cast in the election were by non-citizens."

Reading through the list of chicanery, it is all about how democrat votes are overestimated, and republican votes are not. It does not mention questionable voting roll purges that the NAACP took Florida to court over in 2000, the extra votes that appeared for Republicans in Ohio in 2004, nor concerns about Diebold technology being hacked.

By reposting it, I think you are echoing a disinformation campaign. My advice, find a source or throw out the trash.

yeah, good advice. I looked for the article in the Post (which has very nice free archives) and couldn't find it, so I don't think it's reliable.
