February 29, evening

Bernard Wallace was shot last night in the 1300 block of Bloomingdale Rd. in West Baltimore, and died at about 7:15 this morning.

There was a shooting, possibly fatal and/or involving police, at the corner of Dunmanway and Sollers Point Rd. in Dundalk.

"This is one of those things that just happened. God only knows why." Uh, actually Jerri, if the article is accurate, it's pretty easy to figure out why this happened. The reason involves the words "douchebag" and "huffing."

Pedro Alfonso Orellana, a.k.a. Michael Roy Arnison, a.k.a. alleged perv with a thing for 7-year-old girls.

Jessica Rey really needs to lay off the sauce.
(Officer) Moran had enough time to leap onto his cruiser's roof, police said. He pushed off the oncoming car with his feet as it went by and was not injured. The other driver kept going, though the police cruiser was damaged, said police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn.

The third officer chased and stopped the second driver on I-95 near Route 100. Jessica Rey registered a blood alcohol level more than 2.5 times the legal limit of 0.08, police said.

Ah, many years ago, officer Ralph Greaves was shot in the 1300 block of Poplar Grove Street--just a block from Bloomingdale. And this is just a few blocks south of where that little girl got killed in a druggie shoot-out and they named the little square in that block in honor of her. (Tiffany square, I believe.) It's sad that many parts of Baltimore are still violent after many years of effort, by many different agencies and people.

It amazes me how many people leave their small children with admittedly-addicted caregivers, who claim they blacked out after taking such and such. Well, sheesh, if you know that you'll get all zombied-out, why do you volunteer to babysit? Could it be the other caregivers were wiped out too? Baltimore is awash in drugs, guns, violence, and substance abuse of all kinds.

Douchebag is totally your favorite word!
(What IS a douchebag, anyway? Douche I get, but where does the bag come in?)

From Wikipedia:

"A douche bag is a piece of equipment for douching: a bag for holding the water or fluid used in douching (the term douche bag can also be used as an insult; see below for slang uses). To avoid transferring intestinal bacteria into the vagina, the same bag must not be used for a vaginal douche and an enema."

"Douche bag, or simply douche, is considered to be a pejorative term in Australia, the United States, Canada and New Zealand. The slang usage of the term dates back to the 1960s. The metaphor of identifying a person as a douche is intended to associate a variety of negative qualities, specifically arrogance and malice."

I admit it. The word is a newfound pleasure for me (along with "jackass", which I also overuse). Both words allow me to express my feelings about many of our finer perpatrators without relying on my other favorite words.
