Seven murders in five days

The 17-year-old boy shot in the head on Friday, Andre Thorpe, has died.

A female (reported both as a woman and a teenage girl) and a 16-year-old boy were killed last night in an apartment building in the 5600 block of Loch Raven Boulevard.

Lougene Williams III, 20, was shot to death in Waltherson

A 51-year-old deliveryman was shot multiple times in East Baltimore

"As investigators probe the disappearance of cars removed from Baltimore City's impound lot without owners' consent, the absence of the stolen cars from the city's auction list raises questions about how vital automobile information was acquired by alleged thieves."

A man was shot in the shoulder near Mondawmin mall last night; a man was stabbed in the side at 3:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of McHenry St. (this morning I assume)

Um, let's see 6 dead in 4 days. Okay, math time, 6/4= 1.5 per day. At the current rate, 1.5 x 365 will give us a projection of 546 murders for 2009. That will be 91 murders per 100,000 residents. Surely, we'll break all sorts of records. If it isn't already, that'll put Baltimore on the map. You're doing a heckuva job, Sheila.

This is awesome, so much for the decrease in murders! Looks like someone is having a hard time claiming these homicides as "undetermined" deaths.

Andre Thorpe managed to eke out 17 years. Where did he live? What school did he attend? How many grades did he complete? Does he have any siblings? How much more do we have to pay Ditkoff to make a few phone calls to get this information?

January, for the last several years, for whatever reason(s) has been a very violent month and the new year often starts with a rash of murders. Hopefully, things will slow down a bit. Despite the drop overall in murders last year, a modest 17%, Baltimore remains a very violent town--at least part of it does, anyway.
