Teenage Riot

Two men shot in the NE

Due to a massive water main break at Lombard & Gay, all city buildings have closed, including the courts. The leash-fine hearing has been rescheduled to 9 a.m. May 12.

Last Saturday at the Harbor= some kind of teenage riot. WJZ says two teens were stabbed in two separate incidents. Though a reader's friend said there were shots fired in front of M&S Grill, police say that there were no reports of gunfire.

Club Miami on the block has lost its liquor license... for not selling enough hooch!

"They say once they came across the next victim, they asked him if he was in a gang. When he said no, they then attacked." What is the correct answer if someone asks you if you are in a gang?

These kids in gangs are animals, plain and simple and I just don't get it. Two of my friends were beat badly right in front of me (one of them is a girl too!) just because they were wearing red in the wrong neighborhood. It's absurd when you have to plan your wardrobe around gangs. Because of the humidity that day (it was last July) I was wearing a blue bandanna to cover up my frizzy hair - I believe the bandanna is the only reason I didn't get beat too.

I get it. These are the lost children. Father is long gone and mother is completely overwhelmed with paying the bills on very little money and probably raising more kids resulting from more pregnancies with more men. Adolescents and teens are tough to handle, they are testing their boundaries and are physically large. These kids need structure, leadership, camaraderie and direction. The gangs willingly take these kids in and provide what these kids so desperately need and want. The downside is the gang leadership uses these kids to further whatever illicit gains they seek, usually through a large pile of BS, bravado, violence and giving kids a false sense of self-esteem. Fix that father problem and you will fix the gang problem.
