This continuing series of burglaries highlights the difficulties of crime/prevention and control in this and similar areas (perhaps all high-crime areas):
Despite the Hopkins student killing an apparent burglar in that block, the burglaries have continued apace.
Though most victims are apparently students, it appears that despite the publicity, the University's efforts, and, one would think, word of mouth, the burglaries continue, the laptops get stolen, and somewhere out there some cheap person is on the web on the stolen laptop, probably playing video games or watching porn.
And the all-too-thin police force seems unable to stop or deter the burglars because of commitments elsewhere (note some of the other crimes in the area in that same link).
