231

Darnell Edmonds, 31, was stabbed on Monday in the 900 block of Bethune Court and died yesterday. Three other people were injured Monday night: a guy shot in the leg in Better Waverly, a 54-year-old man was shot in the torso in Sandtown-Winchester, a 38-year-old man was shot in the 1700 block of Ashburton St. in Coppin Heights.*

Eli Barber-El was killed in the 300 block of Park Avenue downtown on Sunday, one of six people shot in a two-hour period around town. Fenton notes he was featured in a 2003 Sun story,* "Circle of Grief."

A 36-year-old man was shot in the 3800 block of W. Belvedere Ave on Xmas eve.*
Antwane Knight

Come for the murder, stay for the dogfighting ring: ISO a suspect, police stumbled on one Antwane Knight with six effed-up pit bulls; Knight was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

Also on Christmas eve, an evil genius robbed the Towson Target.*

City officials are officially mum on why the speed camera company Brekford was dumped, but Scott Calvert and Luke Broadwater dug up the documents that revealed errors copious and shiteous enough* for the city to walk away from $50 million in revenue.

Vegetables for the children!

Don't miss Carol Ott of Baltimore Slumlord Watch talking to CBS evening news. A poignant piece, but wish Jeff Pegues had reported anything about why there are so many vacants and what the city is(n't) doing about them.

Look who's taking too: city insiders are using clergymen as a front to get at a $25 million piece of the Harbor Point project. ... but it's for vegetables and Internet for the children! Think of the children! What kind of Nazi Teahadist could take a radish out of the hands of a preacher who is going to get a kickback to feed it to an innocent child? A racist one, probably.

Tavon White has entered a guilty plea. Speaking of children, wonder what will become of all of his?

Slumlord of the flies

A 30-year-old man was shot to death in the 700 block of Cator Avenue is homicide #90. He was shot in the back of the head but kept on driving.

How about slumlord Tom Karle Jr. of Summerfield Investment Group, who is allegedly harassing the holy heck out of a couple of Patterson Park residents with the gall to complain about him letting criminals live in his Section 8 properties. The cojones on this guy. Here's hoping this story will finally introduce him and his Section 8 vouchers to some consequences.

"Police review board called irrelevant, ineffective." Let's also call it futile, time-wasting window dressing, considering the board has no power whatsoever to enforce its findings.* What I wonder-- why do these members bother to serve, considering how much time it must take and that there's zero chance of affecting change? Armed robbery on the Light Rail at 3 in the afternoon, if Reddit is to be believed.

Good for you, city council members who are making disapproving noises at that Exelon $107 million nonsense.* But bet you a night at the city-owned Hilton it passes anyway.

Paperwork Issues

Two suspects were arrested after the double shooting on Bentalou Street-- one man was shot to death (Cham Green ID on Bentalou is Ralph Timmons, 34, of 1905 North Bentalou Street. It was his son that was wounded. Here we have an involved father that was parenting his child and now he's dead. Very sad) but his son, a brave 11-year-old boy who was shot in the leg, was able to run down the street and find officers who were still on foot patrol following the triple murder on Fulton Avenue on the West side.

Intrepid blogger Cham was able to find links for two of the Fulton Avenue victims:  IDs: Tyreka Martin, 20; Kishawna Pinder, 20; Brian Powell, 21
Person of Interest

Police released photos of a person of interested wanted in the murder of Michael Jones on 2/21.

There's no such thing as being "found innocent," but Stewart Dennis Sachs, president of the board of Har Sinai, accused of money laundering for a crack dealer, has seen all charges dismissed against him, his lawyer says the accusations were the result of a "paperwork issue." Sachs is the owner of a firm specializing in "distressed capital" whose property holdings have previously been featured on Baltimore Slumlord Watch.

City officer Adam Lewellen is in hot water for lying on warrants, falsifying a court order and burgling his ex-girlfriend, illegal gun possession, forging his address on his driver's license, dusting scales with phony cocaine...

The State Troopers were audited, but auditors found inventory control to be "lax"-- the Troopers apparently are not keeping count of their vehicles ... or guns..  or computers... or real estate.

A prodigious number of updates in this week's Murder Ink.

Ohnooo, a 5th accuser for puppeteer Kevin Clash. And so now we all know who calls those chat lines advertised in the back of the City Paper -- 16 year old boys and chickenhawks. And remember that Towson lady pimp, Di Zhang? The Feds are going after her property.

If you can't get enough of hearing people pontificating about gun laws, Goucher is hosting a panel of experts in their Hyman Anthenaeum at 8 p.m. on April 15.

February 27 evening

Rasul Malik Brown was arrested for the January 8 murder of 16-year-old Marcus McDowell [9], and Gregory Johnson Jr., 21, is being held for killing Vernon L. Carter in 2005.

At about 11 this morning, following four days of testimony and more than four of deliberations, a Baltimore City jury convicted Derrick Taylor, 27, of the Remington halfway-house triple murders; on January 10, 2005 Taylor shot and killed Nathan Gulliver, 49, Antwon Arthur, 38, and Steven Matthews, 36 in 540 block of West 27th Street and was found guilty of three counts of first-degree murder committed during the commission of a felony. Taylor faces a maximum possible prison term of life without the possibility of parole (in the County Taylor would be eligible for the death penalty) and is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Roger W. Brown on April 10. The jury also convicted Taylor of several handgun counts but failed to reach verdicts on first-degree murder (premeditated) and several second degree murder counts and assault counts, upom which Judge Brown declared a "mistrial." Taylor remains held without bail at the Baltimore City Detention Center. A second defendant in this case, Corey McMillon, is serving a prison term of life plus 20 years for a previous murder conviction and faces an April trial date for his alleged involvement.
