April 17

The woman's body found in a creek in AAC has been identified as 46-year-old Svetlana Coontz.

Johnnie Toomer, the alleged shooter who attacked three kids and one adult last week, is being held without bail.

Idle Hands: The theories of who poured sulfuric acid on a slide in Middle River Saturday may prove right: two 16-year-olds have been arrested. Apparently they were just curious and wanted to see "if the chemical would burn the plastic."
The toddler who was burned by the acid underwent surgery yesterday.

Police labeled Michael Jay Francis as "critically missing" after recovering the car that was used in Francis' kidnapping and finding his bloody clothes inside the trunk.

A bad breakup led to the drive-by shooting that left an 18-year-old man and 17-year-old girl wounded in Darlington. Two 18-year-olds were arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Perv du jour: Baltimore County substitute teacher Stephen Williams Stauffer pleaded guilty to stalking a 10-year-old girl, sometimes with binoculars and a gun in his car. He didn't get any jail time, but he's totally not allowed to stalk her anymore.

Honorary perv du jour: Phillip Wilson of Finksburg, who was found guilty of fourth-degree sexual offense and second degree assault against two young girls.

Dead perv du jour: Rabbi Ephraim Shapiro, who may have molested hundreds of children prior to his death in 1989. The Jewish Times ran the story because "There are young men whose lives were changed forever because of his acts. Some of these men are more figuratively 'dead' than Rabbi Shapiro will ever be."

Someone vandalized the MARC signal house at Dorsey Station.

FYI, the shooter in the triple murder and gunshot case in Remington two years ago received life without the possibility of parole.

Anyone here remember the thumbs down I gave the Mayor's economic development strategy, which she called 'playing to our strengths' in tourism (the convention center hotel), biotech (another word for Johns Hopkins), and financial services(she cited shining examples of subsidy deals with Legg-Mason and JPMorgan) ??

Well, Hopkins biotech doesn't really hire anyone without a Masters except as a janitor. The Convention bookings have been disappointing, and now...

subsidy recipient JPMorgan announces that it's closing its Baltimore check-processing facility without having hired nearly the number of employees the city was told it was paying for.

Never fails. Every time Baltimore City 'invests' your money in economic development, you get squat and someone else gets a bagful of cash.

Oh, I know, it's not technically a crime, but it's sure a damn shame.

That's not really true. For every researcher they need loads of administrators, lab technicians, secretaries and various other support workers.

Perhaps I should speak more precisely. The low-skilled labor inputs associated with this activity are relatively low per dollar of 'tech' expertise. In other words, you'd get more bang for buck out of subsidizing manufacturing or logistical industries, which generate more low-skilled jobs per dollar invested.

Hey Chuck the first "Rabbi Shaprio" link doesn't seem to work.

That story reminds me when we were having all the Catholic-priest molestation allegations someone commmented, why is it just the Catholics? Well, apparently it ain't, this is the second MD rabbi we've heard of! Perverts are everywhere-- and they're after children and teenagers of both genders.
And may I say, yuck, yuck, yuck.

The psycho at Va. Tech apparently paid nearly $600 for a semiauto Glock 9mm designed for concealed carry. He should have come shopping in Baltimore.

It's far cheaper on the street. Glock's list price for an agency gun is only $398.20, and a filed-down recycled street piece will less than half that, if you don't mind being hauled in for some shooting in Detroit. But I guess he wouldn't be too worried about that, would he?

And one more sick Baltimore sonofabitch gets life, this time for serial rape.

Hmmmm... I can't get to anything at the Examiner site. Any Examiner people out there who'd care to fill us in on what's happening?
