A boy was shot last night in 3400 block of E. Baltimore St.

Lorado Williams Jr., 27, a victim shot and robbed on Friday in the 3600 block of E. Baltimore St. died (unknown if there's any relationship to the incident above.)

Two more (!) shootings in the Blotter:
Shooting // Police responding to a report of a man shot in the 3000 block of McElderry St. about 5 a.m. Saturday found the victim bleeding from a bullet wound to an upper leg. The victim, 22, was treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Eastern
Shooting // A 25-year-old man was shot once in the upper body in the 900 block of N. Patterson Park Ave. about 3 a.m. Saturday and was admitted in critical but stable condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The man, who lives in the 1100 block of N. Carey St. in West Baltimore, was found by police responding a report of a shooting.
The trial of officer William Welch has been postponed. Welch is accused of raping a 16-year-old (alleged) prostitute in the SE district house. Three weeks ago, the police lost (or perhaps "lost") the girl's clothing from the evidence room.

bushsnortingOne Clinton Dunnock got 14 years for trying to bring 7 kgs. of cocaine (about 15 1/2 pounds) from NY to Baltimore. Why is the DEA the only organization in the US that uses the metric system?

We love sites like this! Truth About Dixon dishes scandals, outrage

Everyone, you have to BELIEVE... we can top the 200 mark by the end of August. We can do it!

And just imagine it: The NAACP's window hangings will look so nice with '200' there...

Baltimore - If only we could make this stuff up...

Not that there's a single good candidate, but
Dixon's looking worse and worse in my humble opinion.

When was the last time this city had anyone halfway decent running things?

As much as it pains me to say this, Baltimore needs a Republican mayor. Of course, that's like saying that Saudi Arabia would benefit from the separation of church & state. It's a nice idea, but will never, ever, ever happen.

When we had a man in office who recognized that the Drug War was the primary cause of Baltimore's ills....Kurt Schmoke

But then we followed it up with zero-tolerance O'Malley and killed any shot at progress that we might have had.

No one but fetuses and CEOs of large companies benefits from a Republican anything. If you aren't a CEO or a fetus and you think those old white evangelical fucks are looking out for you, you're delusional. Not that the Deomcrats are looking out for anyone much either.

Humm....you're right in one regard -- all politicians are politicians. They are then de facto giant, egotistical douche bags.

However, I would love for you, or anyone else to explain on a local level how a one party system benefits anyone. Cause that’s what you have in most fucked up big cities like Detroit and Baltimore. How dumb does the voting population have to be to continue -- decade after decade no less -- to vote to keep the incumbent party in power. It's not like anyone thinks anything is getting better in these places.

It's irrational and unproductive. Now, I would add the qualifier that the other side might not be more competent when in power, but it isn't helpful when a whole city votes as a block and competition between parties ceases to exist. You end up with no idea battles, or substantive opposing views. Makes the political class more corrupt and complacent than they might otherwise be.

Since when was Schmoke a good mayor? Other than going on Jay Leno to ask him to stop making jokes about Baltimore being the teenage pregnancy capital of the US, I don't remember him doing anything of substance (unless you count "The City That Reads" campaign).

What we need is someone that is committed to crime, period, and doesn't have a separate agenda (staying in office as mayor, moving up into a higher position). Call it a kamikaze candidate - they know they have four years and that's all they need to eradicate crime. They also need to be able to ask for help from other people instead of token assistance (how many state police are helping in baltimore now?).

Until you get someone that's committed more to the city than themselves, expect lots of bodies.

While I am certainly not a fan of Dixon, I have to question the motives of the owners of truthaboutdixon.com. They do not mention their identities on the site (beyond "Paid for and created by Baltimore citizens who fear four years of Dixon") and go to lengths to hide their identities in the domain registration: http://tinyurl.com/27kokt.

Or maybe I'm just too jaded by the shadows lurking behind much of Baltimore's political scene.

if you have a one-party system, then voters are made to choose based on individual merit, right? They'll read the papers with a highlighter

Will there ever be a televised mayoral debate, BTW? That would be some good watchin'.

Schmoke was one of the few politicians brave enough to publicly come out against Drug War.

But, if you tend to think that it's OK for our inner cities to be unregulated, illicit open-air drug markets, that foster poverty and violence. Or, even worse, that we can somehow win this War on Drugs that we have been losing for the past 35 years. If that's the case, then you're right, it might be hard see how Schmoke was a
"good mayor". I give credit for someone trying to provide solutions, not just trying to apply band-aids to gaping wounds.

domains by proxy, very interesting.
Yeah, concerned private citizens don't buy domains that way.
It's what campaigns are expected to do in this day and age: "viral marketing." And lookee, we're spreading the virus!

It's a slow day in the office so I can't help responding...

How does this work? The merit of what? I vote for politicians based upon their public policy ideas. If they all hail from the same ideology, how does that require more attention to the individual candidates? What, to find the minor differences that don't really matter?

side note---You guys are an invaluable reference for me at tothepeople.com....Thanks for the service

"if you have a one-party system, then voters are made to choose based on individual merit, right? They'll read the papers with a highlighter"

Unfortunately that's not how it seems to be working in Maryland. Don't get me wrong, I can't stand the GOP, but the slimeballs like Mike Miller & Michael Busch down in Annapolis are pretty terrible as well. If they had a bit of viable competition I think it would keep them somewhat more honest.

Take a look at how Rudy Giuliani (sorry if I misspelled his name but I'm too lazy to look it up) helped New York. Sure he was an asshole, but I'd take a mayor like him over any of the clowns who've been running Baltimore into the ground. Also, if a Republican did get elected in Baltimore he would have to be a social liberal or moderate, not a bible-thumping loon.

BTW Domains by proxy is just an up sell product from GoDaddy. So they dropped an extra $15 to be anonymous over the cost of the domain name. I do it for my web sites as it helps cut down the spam to the registered email address.

Like Hoecojoe, I use Domains By Proxy for all of my domain names. Otherwise I'd be inundated with spam and junk mail as a result of owning so many domains. I highly recommend the service.

As for Kurt Schmoke, all I remember him doing for the city is blowing the city's budget on useless social programs that only fueled the issues we have now. NO thanks. What we need is a mayor and a police force that aren't hogtied by political correctness.

Kurt Schmoke was right about the "War on Drugs" but he was still a lousy mayor. It's a pity, since he's a smart guy, but from what I know about him he basically threw up his hands and gave up as crime got worse and worse.
