December 6

Three men were stabbed on the Morgan State campus this morning.

"Baltimore will no longer ask certain potential employees whether they have been convicted of a crime, under a policy change approved yesterday intended to prevent discrimination against former convicts."

Sarah Kreager, 26Bus beating update:
The perps were released yesterday and are now back on the street. Super.
The mother of one of the suspects says the victim, shown left, provoked the attack by spitting in the face of one of the girls.
Reports are still conflicting as to where the attack took place, with the Sun reporting E 33rd in Waverly and the Examiner and other sources reporting W 33rd in Hampden.
The E also reports the race of the suspects.
And, for what it's worth, as "Marc" points out, the victim is "no stranger to the legal system," with a rap sheet that includes arrests for forging prescriptions, domestic violence and assault.

Mayor Dixon says the NAACP's Doc Cheatham is "heroic" for privately apologizing to 14 firefighters about the whole fake-noose business.
(So far no comment on the bus driver who intervened and possibly saved the life of the victim above.)

The BK robbery suspect shot by police has died.

Blotter: burglary, robbery, theft, burglary, robbery, theft.

The Bloods and Crips are hot in the 'burbs.

Hmmm... As one of the commenters on the Examiner noted, Sarah Kreager is no stranger to the legal system. Look her up.

interesting!
For me the first 5 cases on the list are showing up blank. Can you see them?

HoCoJoe said...

The first 4 are blank for me. 3 of them are contract, not criminal, 1 is "RESC" (Don't know what that is)

The next three seem to be domestic/custody between Elizabeth (Mother?) and Sarah (with the boyfriend added in) No Criminal charges.

2nd degree assalt from 1999 that was Nollo Pros. Only the Complaintant listed. (Possibly not arrested as no bail nor ROR listed)

Most recent she was caught with a supply of a narcotic without a Rx. (Out on Bail)

In no way looks like a hardened criminal nor gangbanger.

I guess the convict population is so high here in Baltimore that the city council had to open positions for them, just to be able to have enough people to continue the running of the city in the imcompetent manner that is used to.

I don't see how the victim's criminal history is relevant. She didn't deserve to get the snot beat out of her in this instance. I'm sure she expressed frustration at the perps before they adminstered the beating, but that's not adequate reason for their extreme brutality.

Why is this not a hate crime, btw? Sickening.

non,

The criminal History can gives some clues as to motivation in some cases. If a 19yo with a number of drug busts, and a history of escalating violence is killed execution style, it's a good bet that it was a drug deal gone bad.

In this case you can examine the history and I don't see any great pattern or history that would lead to the beating. So the history in this case is incedental. IMHO If you don't even look you can't refute those who want to wave it around.

Of course beating up a white trash drug dealer is still a crime, and the assailants should be dealt with as harshly as possible (and tried as adults). It's just reassuring to me that this was not some terrified Hampden hipster we're talking about - it's someone who might have been shooting off her mouth and generally escalating the situation.

I still don't believe the spitting and knife-pulling story given by the animals' parents, but I think if I was in the same situation, I wouldn't have ended up with my face smashed in.

thanks hocojoe. I see what you're saying.

I notice that her legal record in its entirety is being posted on the Sun's discussion boards. That is disconcerting, because she's a victim and not a perp. Bad form, in my opinion.

to be perfectly honest, I would have either gotten off the bus when I saw it was filled with rowdy teenagers, or would have made my traveling companion give me his seat. Nonetheless, I think the victim would have to have been a near-saint not to express some obvious annoyance at their harrassment of her, no matter how unwise it was in that situation. Likely they didn't need much prompting anyway, as--after all-- they were the aggressors.

non,

Bad form, I agree, but in my opinion the best defense once this starts to to just put it all out where everyone can easily see. I say easily because it is public record available on the web.

If you want to stir up dirt with no relation to the case, then lets check out the mother. Looking at just Criminal Cases where "Beverly Bell" is a defendent, we have 1 woman in Washington Co, and 1 in the city. The one in the city has wonderfull things such as theft, and failing to send her child to school. Good job Mom!

Lets discuss if the tables were turned, shall we? How would things have been received by Media and the Public alike if a 26 year old B/F had her face crushed in by W/M youths because she simply wanted to sit in peace on a bus. Plenty of B/F's have records themselves and that would never have been discussed. Doc CHeatem and his crew would have screamed Jena 6 again and they'd be back to marching in the street. But since that's not the case, I guess no one should discuss race. Yet another example of why Baltimore sucks.

Totally hearsay, but I've heard this girl was "on something" (maybe that non-Rx) and picking on a girl. She spat on her and called them all the n-word, and the other kids jumped in to take up for her.
Still not okay, still a horrible crime, just something to think about.

why is this comment passed by?

"Of course beating up a white trash drug dealer is still a crime"

So, by connotation there are some people that are worth less, but don't beat them up? Ridiculous!

Think about what you are saying before you spout off your racist garbage.

Sarah Kreager's record isn't relevant to the story, even if it's public record. I could pull up the City Paper's story about you crime-bloggers, post your arrests, warrants, divorces, custody cases etc - would that be relevent to the discussion? Absolutely not. I'm sure you idiots also looked to see of Ms. Krager had a Myspace page.

MySpace is so 2004.
I'm not going to tolerate any name-calling on here, if you're into that kind of thing use the Sun "talk" forums.

Anonymous said...

No name calling unless you are calling the subject in question a douche. Thsi blog is very much full of name calling.

The Cybrarian said...

Exactly. it's my blog and I can call someone a douche if I want to.
And you can go on your blog and call me whatever you want to, and post all of the seamy details of my extensive criminal record.
But if you're going to come on here and call me names, I will delete your comments.
See how that works?

As for Kreager's record, it's up to you as a thinking person to decide if it's relevant or not. Some people think it is and some people think it isn't, but I'd rather let a reader make that decision than withhold that information if it's available.
