How Can You Just Not Show?

You know how in China they'll occasionally execute white collar criminals in order to set an example and make the others behave? I'm thinking we could use some of that over here as well.

Hi there. You misread the map - Gilchrest, Ruppersberger, Sarbanes, Van Hollen and Hoyer were all there and voted for the bill. There was only one member of Congress that did not vote at all - Weller from Illinois - and that's likely because he's not running for reelection. Here's a link to the vote tally directly from the House Clerk website: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2008/roll674.xml

I agree with the commenter above. After the vote, I received an email from Sarbanes or someone in his office saying that he voted for the bill.

I am big fan of this well maintained blog, but I feel a certain professional obligation to note that the "what really happend" link is to a very poor, decidedly crackpot economic story filled with one sophistry after another. For good filters of economic story telling and information related to the bailout, I recommend www.marginalrevolution.com (more libertarian bias, tempered with pragmatism) and http://delong.typepad.com/ (more social democratic, with partisan overtones)
