Environmental policy at a federal and state level plays a big part in the rate of inflation. As more and more regulations are added the cost of such regulations are passed down to the consumer. Example Congress mandated that a certain percentage of the yearly corn crop in America be used for producing Ethanol. This means less corn will be available for other purposes. Do you have any idea how many products use corn syrup?

Why do we use corn syrup instead of sugar ? Well Congress said we should move away from sugar because it is harmful to the environment. Most sugar cane producing countries clear cut rain forest to grow sugar.

That's not really true. Our corn syrup policy is mainly a result of lobbying by agribusiness, not some misguided attempt to protect the environment.
