25 years for killer of Shaundretta Griffin, 14

Charles JakesCharles Jakes, 18, right, said he "didn't mean to kill Shorty", aka 14-year-old Shaundretta Griffin, and he shot himself in the thumb in the process of shooting her in the head. Yesterday, Jakes pled guilty to second-degree murder and use of a handgun. The SAO reports "Judge Martin P. Welch sentenced Jakes to 30 years in prison suspend all but 20 years for the murder count and a consecutive 20 years suspend all but five years for the handgun count for a total of 50 years suspend all but 25 years. Judge Welch placed him on five years probation."

This is not real justice. Why suspend anything. This young man should have to spend everyday of those 50 years behind bars.

Real justice will come by the "real Judge" Jesus Christ.

Thou shall not murder

maybe he didnt mean to shoot her like he said, how do you shoot yourself in the thumb in the process of shooting her in the head? seems like he was playing with it or something...not saying he shouldnt get any time, but maybe he really didnt try and kill her..plus why would he shoot her in the head in his moms basement while she was up stairs?

"Why suspend anything."

I'm sure it was a part of the plea bargain. Too many criminals, not enough resources to punish them all.

Two more co-conspirators in the Lackl murder were sentenced yesterday.

"
Each had faced potential life terms, though U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett accepted a recommendation for the lower sentencing ranges based on the defendants' "substantial cooperation" with prosecutors.

That same cooperation has now made them vulnerable to revenge.

According to their attorneys, Pearson, 28, has requested that he be sent to a prison "as far away from Maryland as possible" and Williams, 23, feels he is "a marked man" because he testified against gang members. Half of the eight defendants convicted in the murder, including Pearson, belong to the Bloods."

A rabid dog can't help that he's sick, but he must isolated or exterminated from the rest of the population so further infections are stopped. Let's see, 18 years old, he'll be a ' booty boy ' within a week, sold, re-sold, then sold again. After a couple of years of learning his " feminime side " Let him go..........

well I think if it was a mistake then so what..everybody should pay for their actions weather wright or wrong I dont beleive the got enough time. Look at his record why should be have another chance. He can do his time and come home and still live some what of a life.
We as a nation should look at whats going on around us..our babies are dieing, they are killing each other and for what reasons. But being soft hearted isn't the answer. The same ones thats given breaks are the same ones that come home and brake law again and again. Then what do we do...Allow another brake hoping for change. NO nip it now ...make examples out of these MONSTERS..mAY GOD BLESS HER FAMILY AND MAY THE LORD HAVE MERCY ON HIS SOUL..........

Its a shame how the media twist up everything. If anything both mothers should had got time for child neglect. Both parents are the blame also, not knowing where your child was is a shame on her mothers behalf. And for his mother she should had known that girl should not had been in her home. I hate it when mothers let their daughters lay around with older guys and than when an incident happens like this one they wanna act like they never knew. She need to blame herself too. If both parents was being a real mother this incident could had been avoided. I feel sorry for the girl and the guy. I blame the parents, they should had gotten time.
To this day its 14 yr old girls with 18, 19, 25 and up boyfriends so, dont try to act like this is brand new. God bless both of the victims. I am praying for both families.

These parents should be a shame of themselves, both. They can blame it on their kids all they want too. They are the blame. When your parents are getting high. Who can the kids turn too. God bless her soul and my prayers are with the young man and both families.

I am praying for both families. Only GOD can judge him for real.He knows his pain and the family pain. People are always trying to judge, Only God knows his mistakes and pain. Say whatever you want. Keep your head up CJ. Love you for life. I will be there until my eyes are close forever,, One Love

I believe it was a mistake because for one who would kill some one in their own house. Kids play with guns every day which is a shame because this is what it leads up too. Like some one else said it starts with parenting. Seems like neither child had guidance, feel sorry for both the families.

Justice would had been for both parents to get prison time also.
