§ 4-101. Dangerous weapons...

Somebody needs to actually go read the law. Assisted opening knives (which is what they are talking about) are completely legal.
Actual switchblades are hard to get, and good quality ones cost several hundred dollars. Look up Microtech Halo or Benchmade Infidel for an idea of what a real switchblade is.

I got my switchblade in Tijuana and brought it back over the border in my shoe. Mexico is a great place to buy knives.

I got my switchblade comb at Party City.

As another poster stated, these spring assisted knives are completely legal. Baltimore City is setting itself up for a lawsuit if an arrest was made.

Dangerous use of a knife requires close physical proximity; a gun doesn't. Knives are not as dangerous as guns. To say there is no need for a knife in an urban environment is just specious - positive uses are endless in any environment. A tool is only dangerous if is it used dangerously. Are there "safe" knives? As noted, these are assisted open knives - just like the knife used to demonstrate in the video.

5 seconds into the Fox 45 video piece shows the visage of Barack Obama, who on Oct. 28, 2009 signed amendments to FY2010 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill into Federal Law. The law allows the exception and acceptance of open assist and one hand open knives.

actually, non, knife wounds are more likely to be fatal than gunshot.

.. since this story is from IV I'm not going to comment on the legalities of certain knives.. would Fox run such a story without fact-checking it? If so, that's rather scary...

City code is different than state law, and the SA's office said they beleive they're illegal.

City code, which is why the BPD and SA said they're illegal. You need to fact check your posts before making blanket statements.

Additionally, the City Code has a prohibition.

§ 59-22. Switch-blade knives.

(a) Possession or sale, etc., prohibited.

It shall be unlawful for any person to sell, carry, or possess any knife with an automatic spring or

other device for opening and/or c

the rest of city code, as you can see, it's more comprehensive in terms of definition than state code

(a) Possession or sale, etc., prohibited.

It shall be unlawful for any person to sell, carry, or possess any knife with an automatic spring or

other device for opening and/or closing the blade, commonly known as a switch-blade knife.

Please be careful using this or any other out-the-front style knife as if you operate an out-the-front style knife carelessly, you will injure yourself.
