OK, so two women are robbed outside Petit Louis in Roland Park
They call the police and report the incident.
Because one of them is a prominent head of a shadow-governmental unit of Baltimore City administration, victim "Sally Michel, who heads the board of directors of the Parks & People Foundation and is a well-known political insider in city politics, called to complain."
Apparently, someone high up in City Hall put pressure on her to downplay the incident for PR purposes.
Well, if she doesn't want it to show up in the media, then she should just turn over the purse and plan to be robbed regularly.
In fact, she should have 'please rob me' tatooed on her forehead so that every hoodlum will know that police are instructed not to assist her.
But this idea that people in a abnormally low-crime neighborhood of a high-crime district should poo-poo media attention so as to maintain an illusion of safety is disturbing.
Tell you what. If she doesn't want the publicity, let's pull the patrol resources in Roland Park so that her engagement with the City comes at the cost of living in the same fear the rest of its residents must suffer.
Better yet, I think that higher-ups in city government ought to be obligated as part of their employment to participate in a geographically randomized residential lottery which determines where they must live.
When she's living on Fulton Street, then we'll talk about neighborhood promotion vs. news coverage.
