March 8

Did you know? You can track the custody status of offenders online, and find out when their upcoming "court event(s)" are.

Curtis Lomax, 22, was fatally stabbed with a mystery implement on the 1200 block of W. North Avenue, bringing the YTD total to 49.

James Reid pled guilty today to one count of witness intimidation. He was sentenced to five years in prison, to be served concurrently with a life sentence he recieved last July. Court documents allege on March 8, 2005 Reid wrote a letter to an associate identifying the victim of a non-fatal shooting and instructed the associate to "deal with" the witness. Reid had been identified as the suspect in the non-fatal shooting.

Ink: Five murders last week-- and for the first time this year (unless you count the week when there were no murders) The Sun managed to report them all!

A teenage girl was stabbed by a illegal cab-driver. Mark B. Walker, 79, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a deadly weapon.

Dept of Bad Excuses: "I didn't do it for that long, you weren't even awake." -- Midshipman Lamar Owens

Five children, including a boy who says he's the son of death-row inmate Vernon Evans Jr., were found home alone in the Pimlico area.

Speaking of child molesters, if Teri Hatcher is typical, that means one in four molestation victims will prosecute-- 30 years after the fact. Which means that there are about 400 child molesters in the 21218.

Correction: Judge John Glenn is not elfin.

i don't remember the sun reporting white-guys-in-morrell-park-shooting incident. i know because i've developed this weird hobby of mapping all the murders in the state on my website, so i keep a spreadsheet to help me organize it.

also, when the sun reported on antoine ellis, they said he died in reservoir hill, not on EA like the city paper says. who's right? this is gonna mess up my map. ideally i'd like to know where he was actually shot, not where he died, but neither of them give that info.

lastly, the son of vernon evans wasn't one of the kids found in that apartment, but the adult who rents the place.

and the mother of the kids is his cousin, according to the sun.

non-- You know the police do crime maps too, right? I didn't remember that incident being in the Sun either. But as I only read it online (the ink stains, the fire hazard... only the Sunday NYT is worth it, what with the weddings and crossword) I chalked it up to just missing the story. Could they be falsifying their crime-reporting numbers by posting backdated stories?

yeah i know they do maps too, but i don't like the ones they have freely available for the general public to view online. plus it helps me pass the time when i'm bored at work.

i don't read the print edition either. print is for old fogies. so if you only read the online version also then what made you give the sun the benefit of the doubt this week as opposed to previous weeks?

as for you final question, i don't understand what you're asking.

DC, way ahead of you on tracking the offenders, I followed Sam's killer in Va but now I know that VINE is online I'm registering for it, thought it was only available over the phone. But yea, and if your willing to pay you can do a nationwide court search, but no way I'm paying $30 or more for some search engine to tell me someone is in jail.

Previous weeks I searched for id'd victims' names, and they weren't there.

oh ok, found it. they reported that he got shot but not that he died.

wow. did you see the WBAL TV report on the public safety meeting last night at city hall? As the reporter said, the gloves are off now and even Mary Pat's upset.

Huh, I just watched it online-- I'm still totally unclear on what happened. Did Mrs. J say "he can chuck it" or "he can suck it"? Oh, how I hope it was the latter.

suck it would be hilarious, but even chuck it is kinda funny. Gotta love Baltimore!
