April 5

Off-duty officers thwarted a robbery at Fantasies strip club in South Baltimore, and one would-be robber is dead.

Dating "troubled Tommy" tended to start out nicely with cards and roses, but things would go swiftly downhill from there.

Slots of fun: a tape of now-disgraced Senator Bromwell sounding very Sopranos as he riffs on the "big bucks" potential of casinos, slots and statewide OTBs.

Things that make you go ?: What's with a 25 percent difference between the level of robberies Comsat figures show in the City, and the figures State Police have?

So they went up 8 percent in 2006 then down 17 percent in just the first three months of the year? How likely is that?

It could be due to the severe cold weather for the month of February into March ??? That would be like a full third of the quarter.

Street robbers get kinda frostbitten.

Here's a thought. Before you rob a bar, make sure it's not a cop bar.

Now, remember when I said local boy Brandon Grimes was a very, very bad boy ??

It wasn't a cop bar, it was a titty bar, at least according to the Sun.

And so the take-home message is that if there aren't enough cops to cover more than a fraction of Baltimore, make yourself that fraction.

Titties did the trick. Maybe I'll put an ad in the paper:

Assistant Wanted: must be at least Double C-cup.

Or maybe I'll just sell donuts.

Why do I get a mental picture of Chief Wiggum after reading that Fantasies story?

Now if we can just get the Southern District boys to hang out at Club Mate, we'll be OK.

FYI, the surviving holdup artist at the bar was wearing frickin' body armor!

Double shooting around 9:00 pm at Gilmore & Lombard.

MD Criminal Code 4-106. Bulletproof body armor - Wearing prohibited.

"...A person may not wear bulletproof body armor in the commission of a crime of violence ... on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 5 years or a fine not exceeding $5,000 or both."

Well, I suppose it's better than being dead, but I guess it would depend on who your cellmate is.

More criminal justice professionals call for the removal of Lenny Hamm, whom his own community relations major Hite refers to as inadequate to the task of dealing with the city's huge crime problem.

Ha ha, that makes it sound like it's ok to commit a "crime of violence" as long as you don't wear a bulletproof vest.

But our culture here is one of violence. Body-armor is like... urban streetwear in Charm City. This is an intrusion upon the expression of our unique culture, so it's discriminatory and abridges the first amendment rights of Baltimore hoodlums as a class. Quick, call the ACLU!

Kinda like the prohibition of overly ornate ethnic hairstyles among the BCPD officers.
