WYPR canceled the Marc Steiner show. WTF? I often disagreed with the guy, and I thought he was way too pro-O'malley during the special session, but this is a real loss for Baltimore.

This sounds like an internal journalism workplace drama worthy of a mention on The Wire! YPR's looking at its ratings and thinking: hey, we got a big antenna now; we need to cater to exurbia.

Note to YPR management: did you forget that you are a PUBLIC radio station BASED in the MIDDLE of the city. This city is the heart and tortured soul of this state. And you just flung off the one man in your entire operation who truly GOT IT, who knows the city and all its players, and helps guide the civic discourse like no other radio "personality" can right now.

To paraphrase something uttered on The Wire about a jerk-off police lieutenant: "WYPR doesn't just repel good talent; they heave it away with great force."

Good job, YPR. We used to donate to you -- now, I'm not so eager to write that check.

Apparently Steiner is a really difficult person to get along with. It could be that a regular old clash of egos finally drove him out.

I thought Steiner was integral in the formation of WYPR. Their website says he serves ex-officio on the board. It seems a bit odd that his show would be canceled.

He was, but as far as I know he doesn't have any financial stake in it, so the owner can toss him out if they want.
