There's a bill being proposed that would legalize medical reefer in Maryland. Much to my surprise its sponsor in the Senate is a Republican.

Go ahead and legalize the medical Mary Jane. If you are in real pain why suffer? I'm not going to stand in your way.

The harder question is nonmedical use.

Legalization won't reduce addiction. It won't employ ex-hoodlums.

What it can do is to make the commodity cheaper at retail and perhaps control for quality.

Hoodlums will find another equally illegal thing to do for fun & profit. They'll still be dealing on the streets.

Galt: Look at what happened when alcohol prohibition ended. Sure most of the hoodlums didn't turn into law-abiding citizens, but there was also a lot less profit to be made in hoodlumery which did a lot to undo the harm that prohibition had done.
