Foreign Crabs and Fentanyl

Thirty-two months* for Jasmine "JT" "Target Telephone 9" Thornton, Correctional Officer, BGF conspirator and alleged paramour of inmate and co-defendant Jamar "Hamma Head" Anderson. For what it's worth, Anderson was convicted in 2009 of murdering 17-year-old John Person while aiming for his cousin, who had the audacity to call the police on Anderson after he burgled her house.

Tsambikos Diakoloukas, shot during a robbery in 1982,* is the city's 28th homicide of 2014.

A man was shot during a robbery attempt in Woodbrook yesterday afternoon.

In the Southeast a 12-year-old girl was robbed while walking to Patterson Park Public Charter school.*

BGE scammers are at it again-- this time a fake BGE guy robbed a 70-year-old woman.

The City Paper answers a question: why add fentanyl to heroin? Short answer, dealers are under pressure from law enforcement, it's easy to make at home with handy ingredients and recipes online, has a similar effect to heroin and/but is 100 times stronger, which is why death happens. Bad timing dept: a vote scheduled today in the Senate to change the city's needle-exchange program to a "take all the needles you want" program.

Nikki DeMotto
Cham points out that you should think before you post about your 'licks' and 't-rolls' online, especially if you have a Facebook friend named Nikki DeMotto-- DeMotto is the director of the city police watch center and also its official "social media miner."

John Wesley Mosey was arrested for setting that house fire in Essex.

Portunus pelagicus,
aka a Phillips Crabcake.
Maryland Reporter rounds up the goings-on in the state house, which includes bills on truth in seafood labeling,* a marijuana work group, parents griping about Common Core and a resolution to ask the Redskins to change their team name.

A six+-bullet weekend

A 16-year-old was shot last night in the 1600 block of N. Ellamont St., a 19-year-old was shot Saturday night on N. Eden St., a man was shot in the 3300 block of Belair Road and a guy was shot in the leg on the Alameda.*

Tanya Raymond
The female victim of a shooting Friday in the SW on Kinsey Aveue, Tanya Raymond, died of her injuries. UPDATE: 22 year-old Gerald Gaffney was arrested.* He certainly looks the part.
Gerald Gaffney

And another female victim was shot Friday night on Vine St. on the West side

SCOTUS declined to hear a case challenging restrictions on concealed-carry permits, in a case from the 2nd circuit that sounds quite similar to Woollard.

Seriously, Michael Smith? What the hell is wrong with you? Dude was arrested after injuring his 9-month-old child in a domestic violence incident.

Gak! Human remains found in a garage is Essex*

Another day, another BGE scam, this one over the telemaphone.

Allegedly racist, sexist 1st Mariner Bank is now off FDIC supervision.

Police still don't know who kidnapped Vi Ripken* (or who, like, committed 60% of the city's murders last year either).

The Jarrett trial goes on, with defense lawyers arguing that just because Christine Jarrett went missing, and just because her husband was seen pouring cement in his back yard in the middle of the night, and just because she happened to be found under the cement, doesn't mean that her abusive ex did it.* That George Psoras must have been so much fun for his parents as a kid.

Breitbart is awful, no doubt, but you have to enjoy the headline "Maryland Governor Taxes Rain."

Take the pot, leave the guns

Celine Foster
Two teenagers are missing in the area: Celine Marie Foster, 14, is missing and reportedly suicidal; Alondra Cornee Johnson  is 7 months pregnant.* Can't find a picture of Johnson, other than the very old and fuzzy one on her Facebook page, but she was "last seen wearing a green or black shirt, purple skirt with small white circles and black sandals. Jackson drives a 2005 Chevy Malibu with Maryland tags, 8AY3315. She was seen in the 6000 Unit block of White Stone Road, 21207 at around 2:15 p.m."

The Sunpapers addresses that age-old and oft-asked question: is there such a thing as a heat crime? With eight people shot on a 96-degree day in April it would seem so, but apparently there's no conclusive evidence either way.*

Horror in HoCo: Robert Jarrett III testified against Robert Jarrett Jr.*

John M. Thompson

Down in the 'deener, police seized more than 30 weapons plus some marijuana from one John M. Thompson, age 45, who had also barricaded his door and fashioned some kind of sniper blind behind it and also had guns trained at his windows. Americanly, the marijuana was illegal but the guns weren't.

The Glen Burnie chef who wrestled a rifle away from a robber and hit him on the head with it talked to WBAL.

A woman was home-invaded, beaten and raped in Lutherville/Mays Chapel. Also in Lutherville, the old fake-BGE-guy scam.

With tax day on Monday, the SAO would like to remind you of all the tax evaders that they've known before.

Poor Towson U. First the plagiarizing professor, then the baseball team, then the racists, and now:
SCAM ALERT-Beware of calls from (301) 653-5495
On 04/10/2013 University Police received a request for assistance from a TU student’s family indicating the student had been abducted and that a $500 ransom had been demanded. Upon checking, it was determined that the TU student had not been abducted and was found safe on campus.

Investigation revealed that in the last several months, more than 10 telephone scam cases have been reported to law enforcement throughout this region that involves cell phone number (301) 653-5495. The scams involve the caller stating the recipient’s family member has been involved in an accident or even kidnapped. The caller will not know the family members name. The scam involves the demand for money to be sent by wire transfer or money order and directs the recipient not to involve the police. Law enforcement has tracked the caller’s phone to Puerto Rico. Because the nature of the calls involve the safety of family members, a call recipient may miss critical clues and become traumatized unnecessarily. Please note the phone number in this alert and be aware of the scam.

Flying pigs, drunken skunks, grounded rats

Could've sworn a few years ago the police dept. was so broke they were thinking of getting rid of the helicopters. But now they've got four spankin' new ghettobirds-- actually they're ghetto oiseaux , assembled in Marignane, France with various parts made in China, Singapore and Australia.

Alleged pimp Daniel O'Brien Burton, left, was arrested in SC. "Police say they searched Burton and his car and found a total of $14,888.04, both on his person and hidden in a purple Hennessy box in his trunk."

Wouldn't ordinarily care about a boat crash in Anne Arundel county, but this particular boat was the Legislator, crashed by hardcore homohater Del. Don Dwyer, who was drunk as a mutharfrackin skunk with a .20 -- more than twice the legal limit. The crash injured six, including four children, one who suffered a fractured skull. Dwyer is perhaps best known for trying to impeach Doug Gansler when he said he'd recognize same-sex marriages performed elsewhere and chestnuts like "if a law's not in concert with the laws of nature and of nature of God, and I would hold that, therefore, it is no law at all."

Speaking of old chestnuts, sounds like home invaders are using that "BGE worker" ruse again. Needless to say, get a peephole, use it, and don't open the door for anyone you aren't expecting.

Mitchell Courthouse employees protested unsanitary conditions today, which included "a dead rodent that was trapped between a window and Plexiglas in the office area ... their complaints to remove the rat were ignored until protestors took action ... someone finally removed it and put it in an employee's nearby trash can."

Crime Alert! Fake BGE Men

"Fartsy" wrote:
"I live in Pigtown and we have a guy who's going around robbing houses in broad daylight. He's described as a black male, and VERY tall...like 6'5" or so, and he wears a construction vest and gloves."

I called the SW district to confirm, and the very nice officer who picked up the phone said that what police have seen a lot of lately, in the SW and city-wide, is an uptick in reports of the scam of men posing as workers from BGE, sometimes complete with a very-real looking uniform and badge. Sometimes they scam people by saying that they owe money on their bills and the power's going to be shut off that minute if they don't pay, other times they just flat-out shove their way in and rob the house after someone opens the door.
Of course, he says, BGE doesn't collect cash door-to-door, and they don't show up unannounced, so if you see an unexpected "BGE man" or other utility-person type knocking on your door, don't open the door, and call the police!

UPDATE: Says Fartsy, "No, it's not one of the phony BGE men! This guy just kicks in doors and windows -- he doesn't bother with knocking and pretending to be a phony BGE man. One of our neighbors was stabbed multiple times and has a collapsed lung (or had, I haven't gotten an update lately on the guy's condition). The phony BGE guy is a different crook."

Jezum crow!

June 11

Two bodies in the city this morning: A teenage girl with several bullet wounds was found behind Bentalou Elementary at about 6:15, and a man was found in a car in the 1500 block of N. Hilton St. at about 2:20.

Nearly everybody's covering the fatal stabbing of Marine Reservist Michael Simms in Washington Hill / Upper Fells Point on Sunday: the Sun, the Examiner, WBAL, WMAR, Fox News, and WMDT Delmarva.

Melvin Jordan was identified as the man who was killed in the 900 block of E. Preston St. on Saturday morning.

Ebony Hill was arrested for abandoning her 16-month-old daughter at a White Marsh church.

A Frederick man came home to find burglars in his living room.

A fake BGE employee scammed a man out of $1,000 on Thursday.

Good times in the Blotter: Some shootings, some robberies, and even an arrest.

300 bikers raised a bunch of money for the family of murdered prison guard Jeffery Wroten.

June 9

Two more homicides: Craig A. Hunter, 29, was shot around 8 p.m. last night and was found bleeding under a parked car in the 1900 block of Collington Ave. And, this morning in the 900 block of East Preston St., a man was found dead on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head.

Sixty-year-old Robert "Skip" Harrison Junior, son of a long-time Baltimore City state delegate Hattie Harrison, was indicted Friday on one count of felony theft, three counts of failing to file tax returns, and conspiracy to violate election laws.

Tasered man: "My head is, like, fried."

Scammers pretending to be from BGE are targeting area elderly with fake "unpaid dept."

A MoCo grand jury this week indicted Joseph Paul Bungo of Gaithersburg, who's accused of slashing his 14-year-old son with an ax after destroying his room with it in 2004 and gravely assaulting him at least three times, most recently in January.

PGC: 14 people were indicted yesterday on multiple counts of counterfeiting, forgery and theft in connection with what authorities say was "a sophisticated auto theft ring".

At Aberdeen High School, five teens went apeshit after a teacher threw away a bandana that was lying on the ground.
