August 24

A teenage boy was shot to death yesterday afternoon in the 1400 block of Riggs Avenue in the Western district.

Police are busy investigating three shootings in three different parts of the city this morning: 1:40 a.m., a man was found shot twice at Sinclair Lane and Frankford Avenue in the Northeast; at 2:30 a.m. a man was shot in the 900 block of N. Rosedale Street in the Southwest; at 5 a.m, a juvenile in the 4100 block of Garrison Blvd.

If we're so worried about all of the juvenile murder victims, why is no one enforcing the Minor Curfew laws?

FreedomFightersHandbook-MolotovCocktailWaverly Terrorist Attack! Update II:
The firebombing was on McKewin Street, and the "cocktail" actually landed on the wrong porch! The family is now in protective custody (which sounds a lot like jail) and Mary Pat Clarke says "This is the first time I've ever had a firebombing in my district and it will be the last."
Whose district was the McAbier attack in?

City police found that kid who escaped from the Hickey School, Davon Julius. And what's up with this garbled-yet-intriguing piece of a story? "[Troopers] say Julius had not been struck by rounds fired two nights ago by a state trooper police say was being dragged by the Jeep Cherokee Julius was driving. Police found that Jeep Thursday in the 200 block of North Charles Street. They are trying to determine if it was stolen."

Scandalous! A County traffic-ticket quota system in place since May demands that police write at least one traffic citation every day, or they'll be last in line to pick days off, and issuing three or more daily tickets will get a "positive counseling form."
In spite of the straightforward memo, the County police spokesman denies an illegal quota system exists. WBAL's Steve Fermier: Chief James Johnson says "he had no knowledge of it, would not have tolerated it if he had... and it's gone now in any case." He's also stopped beating his wife!

How crazy is crazy Frank Conaway Sr.? He plans to ask Bundley and Carter to drop out of the race to give him a better chance to beat Dixon!

The family of RPEMS mom and fire cadet Racheal Wilson deem her death criminal murder and have hired local windbag Warren Brown to sue. They say Wilson was 'set up' intentionally because she was female.

"“The president of the City Council race is so important, we must come to some consensus on that, and we should be leaning toward one of the African-American candidates,” he said."

Racist.

Hopefully Davon Julius got a bit of a beat-down after he was arrested. He sounds like the sort who might benefit from it.

The McAbier incident occured on E. Lorraine Avenue in Harwood, which is in the 12th council district (Councilman Jack Young), not Ms. Clarke's district.

Personally, I find the distinction trivial. The new 14th district boundaries were created about a year before the firebombing.

Under the boundaries before Proposition P, Mrs. Clark would have run in the Second district, which certainly included Harwood.

The point is, this area on the Greenmount corridor has been the site of multiple intimidation firebombings by the hoodlums who are allowed by the city to thrive here, and it's time to remove them. All of them. And that requires police manpower in quantity.

And that's all that's really needed.

If the situation persists as it has for decades, it's only because Baltimore encourages crime here.

It's been a choice, not an accident of fate.

More from the Times-News today on the March 17 Edwin Matthews murder:

City woman says shooting ‘was a mistake’
Jeffrey Alderton
Cumberland Times-News

CUMBERLAND — A 28-year-old Cumberland woman charged with first-degree murder in the March death of an East Baltimore man said that if she killed someone it was a mistake, according to court documents.

Candice Annette Page is charged in the March 17 shooting death of 30-year-old Edwin Matthews and is scheduled to appear in a preliminary hearing next month in Baltimore City District Court.

According to district court documents, the shooting occurred at about 12:35 p.m. Matthews was found behind the front door and had been shot several times. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Autopsy by the State Medical Examiner’s Office determined the manner of death “was homicide by shooting,” according to court records.

“The crime scene consisted of the inside of the vacant two-story dwelling with basement, blood-stained furniture and floors in the living room, and three spent .45-caliber shell casings.

“During investigation, defendant Candice Page advised she and the victim were in the location with several other individuals when a fight ensued. During the fight, Candice Page was assaulted,” according to court documents.

The court record states that “an unidentified individual gave her (Page) an unknown caliber handgun and stated, ‘Handle your money, Ma.’ Defendant Candice Page then pointed same toward the front door and fired several shots. Defendant Candice Page advised, ‘If I killed someone, I’m sorry. It was a mistake,’ ” the documents conclude.

Baltimore Police said Friday that Page was found at the scene sitting on a sofa, in apparent shock and suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was in stable condition and was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital where she was admitted for treatment of the head wound.

Baltimore City Police and U.S. marshals arrested Page at her Paca Street residence at about 8:30 a.m. Monday on a warrant that was issued June 13 — approximately three months after Matthews was found shot to death inside the vacant dwelling at 2924 E. Madison Ave.

Page, who is also charged with first-degree assault and two handgun violations, remained jailed without bond Friday at the Baltimore City Detention Center.

If there is a "Traffic Citation Quota" then why do so many people run lights, don't stop at 4 way stop signs and speed? As do the police.
