Carter Holds Marriage Bill Hostage

not showing up this morning was apparently no coincidence: Jill Carter, D-41, is apparently holding up the same-sex marriage bill to draw attention to the horribly misguided "equal time" child custody bill.

I'm not a fan of Jill Carter's tactic, but what's wrong with treating men equally when it comes to child custody?

This stunt of hers is going to come back to haunt her next election. She's claiming civil marriage has been "fast-tracked"? That comes to news to all who have been fighting for years to get this Bill to this point.

Del. Carter, how about you get attention for your Bill without sacrificing the civil rights of others?

It's not about treating men equally-- the law already states that judges can't favor either parent based on gender. HB 1132 mandates joint physical custody, which means children spend equal time with both parents. I lived through an attempt at that as a kid, two weeks with one parent and then two weeks with the other. If you can imagine what it would be like to move every two weeks, then I don't have to tell you what a total nightmare it was.
