What're we up to, 13 murders in the past 14 days? Plus several more victims in critical condition. Jeezus, at this rate we'll easily blow through the 300 mark by the end of the year.

I called it... pretty tragic thing to brag about, but...

Y'know, if we had 200 murders, or 400 murders, I really wouldn't give a damn, because the underlying rot of this city would still be the same, the only difference would be caliber of bullet, proximity to hospitals, etc. This city cooks the books for decades. You can bet we really have at least 100 to 200 more killings every year that are reported as "undetermined" means of death, and thousands more aggravated assaults and robberies. This city gov't is useless. At least if defeat is admitted, maybe we can be helped by state or federal government. But with the complete stupidity of the average Baltimoron, just count on many more years of Dixon, Hamm, Jessamy, or other a**holes just as useless.

Why would the OCME help conceal 200 murders per year? They're a state agency, and the mayor has no control over them. Hell, back when Bob Ehrlich was governor it would have been in his interest to have the medical examiner declare as many homicides as possible. I certainly believe that there are more murders than are reported, but an extra 200 per year? No way. When a bullet is the cause of death you can't pretend that it's anything other than homicide.

Scooter Libby has been told to scoot to prison.

I don't think it's for political effect at the CME's office. It's about being allowed to not commit to a position.

If you have abdominal pains and the doctor diagnoses it as appendicitis, he'll be in trouble if the appendix is healthy. If he diagnoses it as gas and your appendix ruptures, he's in trouble again. So wouldn't it be great if he could just say "Well, we can't really be certain, y'know, it's one of two or three things. Good day. Pay on the way out."

Undetermined = I don't have to bear responsibility.

Now, take the case of Dontrelle Nesmith: yes, you can avoid making a decision by calling it 'undetermined', but it's still pretty clear that she got Baltimored.

She didn't trip and fall. She didn't have a sudden aneurism. And she certainly didn't have either of those things coincidentally simultaneous with the suicide of her problem boyfriend a few feet away.

In another city the family would be outraged at 'undetermined'. Here, large families are very very accustomed to the casual loss of their young. They just don't find it that unusual any more. They just see to the funeral arrangements and make the best of life in the second-worst city in the nation.

The candidates get down to business, Jill Carter says Hamm must go!.

So, toothpaste is important enough to recall when it's toxic, but not the Mayor ?

Don't park your cars anywhere near Charles Village.

The Messenger also has stories this week on the murdered Charles Village Pub waitress and the one-man crime wave in Northern Baltimore.

Galt, I get what you're saying, but the overwhelming majority of Baltimore murder victims are killed with guns. If there's a bullet hole (or holes) in someone then the cause of death is pretty obvious. Like I said, I'm sure there are some undetermineds out there that are murders, but a couple hundred?

On the other hand, maybe there are more bodies sitting in abandoned houses just waiting to be discovered...

I know that I expressed scorn towards all the candidates, but Jill Carter is very quickly getting my attention....

It's interesting to read how Jill Carter wants to cut down on crime considering she is a defense attorney representing many of these criminals. Same with Rawlings-Blake who's "other job" is that of a Public Defender.

“We’re treating the problem from a holistic perspective,”

Why do I have a feeling that "holistic crime fighting" is kind of like "holistic medidine," i.e. 95% bullshit.

I was a little surprised to hear Carter's comment about hiring Ed Norris. I bet that'll drive Martin O'Malley up the wall.

Well, it isn't like he's going to live here ever again, so let him kick and scream all he wants...

Would Norris take the job, do you think?

"Would Norris take the job, do you think?"

I think he'd take it just to piss off all the people who dislike him.

“We’re treating the problem from a holistic perspective,” said Dixon

This sentence alone is cause for her immediate removal from office. What a friggin' dope.
