Police have released a sketch of the suspect who raped an 88-year-old woman, shown at right. Hmm, is that man Asian?
Gus S. on the Zach Sowers case.
Where's everybody going for neighbors' night out tomorrow?
The family & I will be at Mama's on the Half Shell at 6 (the only place in the city that has lobster rolls and a children's menu) ...hope everyone comes out!
Defendant Brandon Morris, accused of shooting Correctional Officer Jeffery Wroten, is such a spaz he'll have to wear a stun belt to court.
As regular readers surely know, killer moms aren't rare.
In MoCo, Francesco Kelly, who at age 16 shot a man because the victim's girlfriend made fun of him on a bus, is a free man.
"The verdict surprised even the defense team."

I hope everyone who can do so turns out for Neighbor's Night Out this Sunday. It's about more then Zach, although the immediate need is to raise for funds for his recovery. Word is that some of the mayoral hopefuls (including the "interim") will be out in Canton as well. So if you see them, make sure you tell them what you think of the current crime situation!!
What a scam. One of the local nonprofits held a daytime parade purportedly for National Night Out.
Several candidates used it to advance their campaigns, including the pro-crime Mayor.
No mention of crime. Only in the fine print on balloons, because they were donated by the National Town Watch Assoc., which prints them 'NATIONAL NIGHT OUT against crime'.
No neighborhood patrol signups.
No call for witnesses to testify.
No nothin'.
You could equally well have guessed that it was the Barney the Dinosaur Parade.
Or the National Night Out for multiple sclerosis.
But you'd never guess in a million years it was about crime.
And an hour later a local hoodlum walked right along where they were and offered to sell me some neighbor's stolen television.
What a f#@king joke.
Here is the Sun's coverage of police concealment of a carjacking incident which contributed to Brandon Grimes' opportunity to murder officer Troy Chesley in January '07.
Apparently, the officer refusing to take the report threatened to make the process so burdensome that the complainant just let him get away with it.
I've had that experience. After my neighbor's store was broken into through the plate glass window, the officer told him that if he insisted on a report he'd have to leave the store closed all day waiting for crime scene techs to show with broken glass all over the place. And they might not show up today, so you'd have to secure the crime scene as-is until they do.
However, he added, if you don't want the report filed, we can forget it and you can open your store and make some money to pay for that window.
Sleazy. And all because of O'Malley's innovative CompStat approach, which penalizes officers for incident reports instead of focusing resources on acts of crime.
I'm debating between Pazo, Mama's, or just drinking a bunch of beers at Max's. Choices choices...
The Zach Sowers case is a good example of why attempted murder should also be a death penalty crime under some circumstances. I see this quote from his wife in the article about what happened.
"About the four, Anna had little to say, no words of anger or vengeance."I really wish," said Anna, "I could just never even see them again.""
If they were executed she could get her wish.
Is that two separate shootings on the 3600 block of Lombard or a re-report of the one from the 3rd? I love a few blocks away and would love to know.
I'll be at Mama's (either on a Half Shel or Nachos) tomorrow. I hope to god Dixon has the guts to show up. I will give her a piece of mind because God knows she could use a piece.
Oh no, too funny. The police say regarding gang activity 'just call us and we'll be there.'
Yeah, in how many hours?
FYI, we have now exceeded the total annual number of murders in the city of Dallas, TX (pop. 1,250,000).
I was thinking about Pazo as well with my girlfriend, but decided that I'm not going to waste any more time or money in baltimore city than necessary.
You know what's sad? The city could really use the revenue that a lot of people in the 23-35 year old demographic could bring in, yet many people are genuinely afraid to set foot outside of their jobs/apartments/homes in the city past certain hours. So basically, money that could make the city better won't get to it because of the criminal element.
|-----begin sarcasm-----|
Oh well, perhaps Dixon's 'holistic' approach is the solution, right? After all, baltimore is a safe city, and jaykwon is a victim of a poor system...
|-----end sarcasm-------|
Uh, what's wrong with Pazo? The area it's in is perfectly safe, and it's an awesome place to go with a ladyfriend. Are you really going to skip it just because it's past the city/county line?
Hoodlum, you really love the unfair generalizations don't you? First you insult that woman's kid, then the comment about Det. Chesley?
In that community meeting at Huber Memorial a few blocks from here Sheila Dixon made endless excuses about how if criminals don't get better housing, better jobs, better recreational facilities, (all for free) they're just going to commit crimes.
Oooooookaaaaaayyy. Great Mayor.
Then you just lock them up, honey. That's the job you're seeking. Stop offering excuses for these hoodlums.
ppatin, I'd feel sorry for Chesley had it not been the laziness and corruption of his brother officers that led the perp who killed him to get away. I'll save my pity for the citizen residents who suffer because of BCPD's idiocy.
Frankly, it's time to admit BCPD has been defeated and fire all their idiot asses and bring in the National Guard or regular army until new, competent officers can be hired.
Oh, and by the way, she met with residents of Govans, whose Walter P. Carter Rec Center had its coach shot dead in February.
Those residents keep asking for cops. She's still blathering on about rec centers.
Can you say... DISCONNECT ?
Then how about ... USELESS.
Speaking of useless, that's what the FOP calls GunStat.
The mayor says GunStat will also hold the criminal justice partners - courts, police and probation - accountable.
But Mayor Dixon claims it's the tool she'll use to ask of others 'What is it going to take?' to get gun violence down.
Answer: Don't ask of others. Ask yourself: How many cops do I need to get the crime down. Not just gun crime. All crime.
That's a lot of cops.
She's trying to magically cherry-pick by type of offense. It doesn't work that way. You need to go after hoodlums.
Murder hoodlums.
Shooting hoodlums.
Assault hoodlums.
Robbery hoodlums.
Burglary hoolums.
Dealer hoodlums.
Hoodlums.
Many of the 324 defendants had no prior gun offenses. You cannot identify them that way. But they were still lower-level offenders. Presumably repeat.
If GunStat reveals important statistical trends, great. But don't use it as a basis for 'allowing' the rest of this city's nongun crime.
For the location of hoodlums, see The Map.
That's where you needs cops.
Pazo does have valet parking, and it's the last day of Restaurant Week.
Funny, I ate there once and it was so terrible I'll never go back... I wrote a comment on the CP site that they needed to review it again and they actually did, apparenty they have a new chef now. Hope he's better than the other guy. Still... for so much $$ I'd stick with a winner if you're going for a schmancier meal. Regi's is good.
Pazo does have valet parking, so it is safe... the robbery happens when the check comes, ar ar
We just got back from out of town, but we hope that Neighbor's Night Out has gone well, and our best wishes for Zach's recovery.
Re gang activity and immediate action... my neighbors and I have called 311 repeatedly--as instructed--regarding Crips graffiti. If it's still there at the end of the week I'm going to go down there and clean it up myself. I was told by the cop I spoke to at the Southwest Precinct not to, because 'they' might see me. To heck with that, it's been over a month now, and I'm sick of looking at it (it's on the new Forest Park bridge, in case anyone cares).
