Lavon Caldwell, age 25, of Baltimore pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. Caldwell and co-schemers used fraudulent driver’s licenses at stores to open credit accounts in the names of victims, and then used the temporary credit cards to buy high-priced goods that were then sold for cash.
Police in Colombia say they've arrested a man they call the biggest drug boss in the country, Diego Montoya, allegedly responsible for producing "tons" of cocaine for the US market.

Is it too early to start a Mayoral campaign (en EspaƱol for our new majority of voters by then)for the 2012 election, based on public hangings and vigilantism? It almost worked for Homer...
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Diego Montoya won't change a goddamned thing. But hey, we're winning the war on drugs...
"... A bank customer chased Chaney and apprehended him near the bank."
Now that's what I'm talking about, citizens standing up to do what is right!
Just to keep the comments totally off track, one of my favorite movie quotes.
"My name is Diego Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die."

Sorry, Joe, it's INIGO Montoya.
INCONCEIVABLE.
Well I voted this morning. Good luck Jill Carter, Michael Sarbanes and Don Dewar.
Anyone know who the Baltimore Judge was that sentenced Chaney to 30 years for murder than suspended all but time served?
That Judge obviously should not be re-elected.
ppatin,
I hate to rain on your parade, but Don DeWar won't do a damn thing for our district if he's elected. He doesn't even live in the city (he spent three days in one of the many vacant properties that he owns so he could qualify under Maryland's archaic election law). His pet issue is razing the Canton dog park- since he thinks it has a negative impact on the value of his vacant houses.
Mr. Meph, none of these candidates will do a thing for us! I have no illusions about Don Dewar, but when given a choice between a bad incumbent and a bad challenger I'll vote for the latter because I figure that turnover is a good thing.
Dopple, there are no judges up for election this year. Besides, circuit court judges have (I think) 15-year terms.
INIGO, thanks! It's actually a clue in this week's Sunday NYT crossword and I couldn't remember!
I know the judges aren't up for election this year, but this case seems like a prime example of why the Circuit Court Judges have to face the public periodically.
True. Or even better, just take away their ability to suspend sentences. Federal judges never have to face election once their confirmed, but they dish out harsh sentences all the time because they have no legal alternative.
Ok, it's Inigo. I have to go read the book again...
So in Baltimore a 2nd murder gets you 15 months in jail?
