13 Years for Murder of Shaheed Boyd

At a hearing yesterday, Paul Barton, 26, of the 3200 block of Normount Ave. pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence. Judge Pamela White sentenced Barton to 30 years in prison, with all but 13 years suspended for the murder count, and a concurrent 20 years in prison, all but 13 years suspended, for the handgun count. On April 29, 2006, Shaheed Boyd, of the 3100 block of Westmont Court, was shot one time and died as a result of his injuries. Witnesses were located who indicated that Paul Barton approached the victim and without provocation, shot the victim and then fled in the victim’s rental car. Assistant State’s Attorney Diana Smith of the Homicide Division prosecuted this case.
