Which Middle East? The one with Iraq or the one in Baltimore? You got to be clear on these things.

You are indeed so wise to ask this question!

But Peter used to be the Sun's police reporter for several years. Don't remember much about him, except that I quarreled with a lot of the drivel he put out--I do remember that his facts were, how shall we be polite, here, ok as far as they went, but...........

Now that the Sun has closed down all its foreign bureaus, I guess they've decided to send him to cover something really foreign--community meetings, where real people living in the neighborhoods vent their frustrations, insight, and need for help to city officials.

Quality of life stuff, as described in Peter's first blog is very difficult if not impossible to quantify. And even if one could, it is not nearly so easily manipulated by the stat-keepers. However, this stuff has a huge impact on neighborhoods. Just a few nasties can turn a whole neighborhood from ok to bad in less than a year.

The Sun has some updates about evil dad Mark Castillo. Apparently he wants to withdraw his NCR plea and plead guilty, but his public defenders won't let him (or so he claims.) He's also trying to fire his lawyers and represent himself. Why won't he just man up and kill himself, and spare the rest of the world the trouble of dealing with him?
