It's a great place to work, but I wouldn't want to live here

Apparently, a very notable BPD employee finds Alexandria, VA. a more appealing place to call home.

In the last 24 hours I've had 2 discussions with Baltimore City police officers. Even though I was polite and to-the-point, both discussions didn't go well. The officers were unbelievably rude. These guys have an I-deservedism attitude. The residents of Baltimore City are a thorn in their side, keeping them from doing little work and getting a large paycheck and perks. They need to be taken down a notch. I hope somebody does something about this. Oh, and it's not $3K a year or $5K a year just for gas on those cars, nobody factored in vehicle depreciation which is a small fortune.

Promotions at the US Attorney's office.

BTW, does anyone know who Rod Rosenstein's replacement will be? I believe his term ends this summer, and I'm curious who's being considered for the job.

Cham, that's right. Some city workers forget that their salaries come from taxpayers AND SO they should be a little less rude when it comes to dealing with the public.

Everyone has a bad day, but it seems like there's some kind of city-wide attitude problem among city employees that really can generate ill will against the city government.

In my work with police officers from a number of agencies, I've seen a confusing mix of entitlement and resignation about their jobs. Resignation due to the fact that they're often unappreciated for doing some of the worst work we ask people to do, and entitlement to every possible facility, concession, and piece of equipment they might one day need to do their jobs. The "homeland security" mania of the last decade has only made this last part worse.

I understand why Baltimore City doesn't have a residency requirement for cops-fair enough. But I can't believe that the City Council won't pass a state residency requirement, or at least a radius of residence.

I finally managed to get to the Sergeant on Duty yesterday and got what I needed done. He was very polite but maybe that is why he is the sergeant.

The 10 most dangerous jobs
Occupation Fatalities per 100,000
1. Timber cutters 117.8
2. Fishers 71.1
3. Pilots and navigators 69.8
4. Structural metal workers 58.2
5. Drivers-sales workers 37.9
6. Roofers 37
7. Electrical power installers 32.5
8. Farm occupations 28
9. Construction laborers 27.7
10. Truck drivers 25
Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics; survey of occupations with minimum 30 fatalities and 45,000 workers in 2002
You will notice the conspicuous absence of police work. That police work is so dangerous is a myth perpetuated by the police industries to shake down the public and to literally get away with murder.
So lets start appreciating the people who really put their lives on line everyday and not the ones who just CLAIM TO PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE.
THANK YOU! FISHERMEN, FARMERS AND LUMBERJACKS FOR RISKING YOUR LIVES TO BETTER OURS.

While I agree that policing isn't as dangerous as some people make it out to be, your statistics are misleading because they presume that all police officers face the same risk. Being a cop in Baltimore City is much more dangerous than average, sort of like being a cop in say, Ocean Park, Maine is much safer than average.

I am a Police officer, and I have worked many other jobs before law enforcement. Yes, there are jobs that may be dangerous due to on the job accidents... this is not even in the same ballpark as police work. Officers do risk their lives every day, and about 100 officers lose their lives every year in the line of duty. This does not count the thousands of officers who are shot, stabbed or assaulted and survive. For you to make a comparison of timber cutters and police officers is just plain insulting. I hope most people with common sense don't buy this garbage. Why don't you ride along with a cop in the western, and I think you'll have a change of heart, and also understand why cops can be grumpy. Its often thankless work, even from your own department, let alone the public.

Mr. ppatin,

My personal belief is that lies, deceit, subterfuge, and word manipulation are far more dangerous than guns. The primary and most powerful weapon in the city police arsenal is the lie. Not firearms. Not technology. But good old fashioned lies.
No where in the language that I used was there any presumption or even hint that police persons face the same risk. That cannot be said of any occupation. But, IT DOES STRENGTHEN ANY ARGUMENT YOU MIGHT DEPLOY WHEN YOU MISCHARACTERIZE MY COMMENTS. Sort of like what your commissioner did when he listed threats against police as if they were all related to police involved homicides when none of them were: SUBTERFUGE.

RISK ASSESSMENTS OF BEING A BALTIMORE POLICE PERSON

It is my understanding that DUE TO THE DISREGARD FOR HUMAN LIFE IN BLACK NEIGHBORHOODS AND THE RECKLESSNESS BORN OF IT BALTIMORE POLICE PERSONNEL ARE THREE TIMES MORE LIKELY TO BE SEVERELY INJURED OR KILLED IN AUTOMOBILE COLLISIONS THAN IN ANY TYPE OF VIOLENT ACTION. AND STILL, DRIVING A TRUCK IS MORE DANGEROUS e.g.- TWO DELIVERY DRIVERS SHOT BY P.G. COUNTY POLICE HOMELAND SECURITY SPECIALISTS KEITH WASHINGTON.

YOU CAN FOOL SOME OF THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME
YOU CAN FOOL ALL OF THE PEOPLE SOME OF THE TIME
BUT I DON'T EAT IMITATION CRAB MEAT EVER

P.S. I thank you for your input.

Mr. David,
I would like to first thank you for your response. Your input is very valuable in my quest for freedom.
I have counted roughly four points you made in your comments.
1. "...there are jobs that may be dangerous due to on the job accidents... this is not even in the same ballpark as police work."
Sir, what is the number one cause of on the job deaths for the Baltimore PD?
If you said automobile ACCIDENTS then you are correct. Yes, ACCIDENTS, ACCIDENTS, AND MO' ACCIDENTS.

2."...comparison of timber cutters and police officers is just plain insulting."
Insulting? INSULTING?
Let me get this straight, by the numbers timber cutting is far more dangerous than policing, and you say it is insulting to compare. The only thing that I can conclude from this statement is that you believe that the lives of timber cutters are less valuable than the lives of police persons. This would be right in line with the arrogance towards and the disregard for the lives of people in the city which you claim to serve.

3."Why don't you ride along with a cop in the western, and I think you'll have a change of heart, and also understand why cops can be grumpy."
Huhhhh! Woe is me.
Does it have to be the western, or can it be the eastern, central, NW, etc. Again, my understanding is the NE is leading in murder right now. I'm the kind of guy that goes to the heart of the action.
But truly, WHAT MAKES YOU SO CONFIDENT THAT I HAVE NEVER BEEN ON A RIDE ALONG OR A FEW RIDE ALONGS.
"Grumpy", you say?
It is obvious now that you have never had a real job. LISTEN UP COP! I HAVE BUSTED MY KNUCKLES AND CRIED BECAUSE MY TOES WERE FROZE AT WIND CHILL 25 BELOW. I'VE DUG DITCHES WHEN IT WAS 105 IN THE SHADE. DAY AFTER DAY. YEAR AFTER YEAR. NO ONE MADE ME DO IT. I CHOSE DO IT. THIS IS WHAT SICKENS ME THE MOST ABOUT BPD; ALWAYS PLAYING THE VICTIM. IN MY JOB PEOPLE LOSE FINGERS, TOES, ARMS, LEGS, AND LIVES.

IF YOU DON'T RESPECT THE RISKS THAT OTHER WORKERS TAKE WHY WOULD THEY RESPECT YOU?

4."... thankless work, even from your own department, let alone the public."
You know what? I'm going to let this one go b/c I have already addressed your whining, and I believe I have said enough.

CONCLUSION: I am going to end by telling you why I do what I do. As I type this, there are to many individuals walking around free as birds b/c they happened to be in possession of a Baltimore PD badge when they stole, perjured, raped, and or murder, et cetera. The public you speak of feel as I do. No longer will you be able to harbor criminals and be respected at the same time. YOU WILL EITHER GIVE THEM UP, OR YOU WILL BE TREATED LIKE THEM.

Obviously you are out of your mind, and there is no reasoning with a person like you. You enjoy twisting people's words to make your points legitimate. You are wrong, and clearly you lack any respect for any type of authority, and the very people who protect your freedoms. No, I do not think timber cutters lives are less valuable than police, but I will say the duty of a police officer IS more important than cutting trees. Certainly there are people that shouldn't be cops, just as in any profession there are poor employees. You show your predjudice by painting with a broad brush. Obviously you had a negative contact with the law. I bet you were arrested, right? Probably smoke weed, and you feel you have the right to do so.And you tried to imply you went on a ride along, but never directly said that you did. I have met many people like you, and the one thing they had in common was that they all lived with their mothers until they were 30, and were downright crazy. Go ahead, feel free to write another essay about all of your knowledge about the world, but until you've done this job and understand its dynamics and ALL of its responsibilities, you have no right to say shit until you've walked in these shoes. You have no clue. You are a coward, and I would bet you have a criminal record!

This is going to be my last comment on this issue, because its clearly spinning out of control- but I want to make the point that statistics do not prove anything, experience should be the gauge. Secondly, numbers are numbers. These statistics are fatalities per 100,000. How many police are employed compared to timber cutters? There are approximately 800,000 full time sworn officers in the US, many more employed than timber cutters. Your statistics are skewed, you just hate cops. I lived in Washington state, I loved it there and respect the profession of logging, but my god man its not the same thing! Visit the website odmp.org and read the memorials of every single officer killed in the line of duty. 137 were killed in 2008.

It's settled then. Police officers are the second coming of Jesus. Let's double their salaries, I don't really need my income that badly anyway.

Come on people, we should all celebrate Flag Day today. We will sing patriotic songs, agree that the US is the bestest country in the world and gubmit employees are super duper, have tougher jobs and deserve more money and perks than eveyone else.

P.S. Tyranny and corruption always pitches true justice as insanity. It is insane to think that cops should go to jail when they commit murder. It is insane to think cops should go to jail when they commit rape. And it is most insane to believe that a good cop is not so good if he is helping rapists and murderers go free. Insane! Insane! Insane! I AM.

To anyone interested,

I do truly love when people like David comment, ignorance and stupidity on public display. It makes me look so smart to third parties. And truly, I am not that bright.
BEING A POLICE OFFICER IS DANGEROUS SIMPLY B/C DAVID SAYS IT IS DANGEROUS. AND ANYONE WHO DOES NOT BELIEVE B/C DAVID SAYS SO MUST BE A COWARD, SMOKING WEED, HAVE A CRIMINAL PAST, AND HAS NO RIGHT TO SAY ANYTHING ON THE SUBJECT UNTIL THEY MEET THE CRITERIA SET FORTH BY DAVID.

SHOULD I KNEEL, OR SHOULD I JUST GENUFLECT?

Of course your not going to say anything else. The facts are against you. This is the one piece of wisdom you have shown.
YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO SHUT UP. IF YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH AGAIN, I WILL EMBARASS YOU AGAIN.
