Remember Stephen Pitcairn?

His alleged stabber Lavelva Merritt cut a deal with Bernstein & Co "for a total of about 15 years followed by three years' probation"

And Fenton Tweets, "Body found in the Inner Harbor last week identified as Wayne Paige, 25, of Pikesville, who went missing from Baltimore County on May 7."

I'm not defending the plea deal, but wasn't Lavelva the accomplice and not the stabber? I think the general consensus is that John Wagner stabbed Stephen Pitcairn. If her testimony gets Wagner put away for life instead of 40 with 25 suspended, then I might be OK with this plea deal. However, if Wagner also gets a favorable plea deal (like Trayvon Ramos and his buddies did), then we should be outraged.

Even if she wasn't the actual stabber she is an accomplice to a felony that resulted in death. She is just as liable for murder as John Wagner and Bernstein should make sure they they are both off the streets for a long time! If we wanted willy nilly soft "justice" we could have just kept Jessamy.

Yes, anonymous, I understand how an accomplice is just as liable as the murderer. My point was that maybe Gregg Bernstein figured that he would have an easier time sending Wagner away for the rest of his life if Merritt testified against him. I would rather have Wagner locked up for life than have both of these scumbags given "life sentences" with all but 40 years suspended- and out in 24 years with good behavior.

We just need to hope this case doesnt end up in front of Judge Fletcher-Hill. The guy is soft on crime even after a trial!!
