I find this highly irksome that I have to sign in to track a bill-- but anyway the House has done it, they passed the gun bill 11 hours ago!!! Having fingerprints of gun owners on file will make a huge difference in solving cases like the Barclay shooting. Combine that with DNA testing, mental health treatment and decriminalization of pot and our crime problem will be solved !

yep. because the VAST majority of criminals who shoot other people get fingerprinted before they buy a gun.
Actually they don't, which is why they passed the law. Try to keep up.
Laura's point is that criminals will not get fingerprinted regardless of the law. Please don't tell me you actually think criminals are going to comply with this new law. **Facepalm**. Fingerprinting only serves to burden the law-abiding gun owner with fees and hurdles. Nothing more.

criminals will not comply. this bill affects ONLY those who actually care about following the law. the punishment portions of the bill were gutted! this is nothing but a hindrance to those who care about staying legal.
Maryland doesn't want legal gun owners living here. Maryland also must not want the significant sums Beretta pays to the state in taxes - they intend to leave.
thing is, buying a gun gives you immense power - the power to end multiple lives. and while a person buying a gun may have the best intentions initially, people change, and so do their circumstances. So if someone buys a gun not being a criminal, but then commits a crime with it, this will be benefit. And if you are so positive you aren't going to kill anyone with your gun, then I don't see what you have to worry about.
to say everyone who legally purchases a gun isn't going to commit a crime, and that every crime committed with a gun is with one procured illegally is a fallacy. chill.
i believe that was part of the reason the bullet casing warehouse exists.
and yet, none of those spent casings have EVER been used to solve a gun-related crime. ever. so it's one more hurdle for those who care about the law, and one more reason to charge gun owners more money for the transfer.
Well said Laura. The bullet casings were found to be expensive and useless in solving any crimes and yet the restriction remains... and only burdens law-abiding gun buyers.
Fingerprinting is no different. What the people writing and passing this law fail to comprehend is the majority of guns on the streets are STOLEN. They are not straw purchases. Fingerprinting someone who wants to buy a gun lawfully will have no impact on availability on the black market.
