September 6

Fox's Jeff Barnes reported last night that the man shot in an auto-parts store on Belvedere Avenue died, and a suspect fled in a silver Mercedes, plate 9CT H64.

From yesterday: A foul-smelling (alleged) sex offender with a collection of knockout drugs was discovered hiding in the closet of two Dundalk kids.

More on murder vitims Jasmine Borum and her grandmother Pauline.
WMAR reports that neighbors believe the grandmother was caught in the way of someone after Jasmine, but
'[Jasmine's] dead and gone why drag her name through the mud,' says [neighbor Marcus] Lynch. Only because other residents believe her record may explain why someone would kill a 60 year grandmother and her granddaughter inside their home and in a neighborhood, everyone agrees was quiet full of families, full of children.
A 20-year-old man walking in the 1500 block of Cliftview Ave. about 12:30 a.m. and was shot in the back and lived; Troy Spencer, 33, was arrested for shooting two people; stolen American cars in the Blotter.

In AAC, Ronald Francis Dawson II will serve two months for killing TJ Watson in an alleged drug deal gone bad.

Mother-of-the-year Shanda Harris won't get a plea deal.

Who Knew? Dept:
Apparently, Remington isn't an abyss of drugs and violence.

"While socially and economically diverse, portions of Park Heights -- particularly what's known as "Lower Park Heights," below Northern Parkway, have suffered 30 years of poverty and neglect. Today, high crime, drugs, blight, and other social ills, disproportionately impact this community."

I wonder when "socially and economically diverse" became a euphemism for "crime-infested shithole."

oh people call the part of park heights avenue above nothern parkway "park heights" also? i thought that was "glen" or "cheswolde" or something.

Im glad that someone is finally giving Park Heights a chance.

The many good ppl that live and work in PH deserve the same respect that any other neighborhood in Baltimore recieves. PH has a long history...its only in recent years that it has become a haven for drugs and crime. Thank absentee landlords, inadequate crime fighting, poor educational systems and ignorance (ppl that wish to maintain the status quo - "There is no hope for Park Heights")!

Please stop lumping all ppl in YOUR pre-established (biased) and incredibly limited and bigotted categories. FYI: A large number of Black ppl (African Americans)live in lower park heights. Many good and many bad...."shit hole"...maybe....home definitely (perhaps unfortunately) and all are INDIVIDUALS!!!!

Not all black ppl are criminals or deserve to be in jail. Not everyone that lives in PH condones the conditions. Why would you think (assume) anyone would?

When was the last time you visited a friend in PH? probably NEVER.....just running your mouths as usual!

"shit hole" you say....mmmmmmmmmmmh

ah, no additional comment!

I'm not lumping everyone together. Hell, it's law-abiding citizens who live in bad parts of the city who I feel the worst for!

You seem to absolve the people who live in bad neighborhoods of all blame for what goes wrong there. Rampant out of wedlock pregnancy, bad parenting and the "stop snitching" culture have all done far more harm than absentee landlords.

C-Love,

No question,... I wouldn't want to live in hardcore Park Heights.

You ought not to take umbrage when writers disparage what is clearly a devastated place. It's not out of hatred. The conduct in that location is just statistically too nasty for most civilized people in this country.

Do you think it is disparaged because of its racial identity? I don't think so.

The City of Baltimore has tolerated crime there for many years and underprovided police. Perhaps because of their minority status. More likely because of their class. I don't know.

Are there many folks there whose current conduct merits immediate arrest? Yeah. Those are hoodlums. Lock 'em up and throw away the key. Are most of them black? I'd bet they are.

Are there any black Park Heights-ers left over after all the hoodies and crack-ho's are yanked off the streets? I'd bet there are. They deserve your support.

But the area, managed as it has been by the City, deserves disparagement. If it wishes to be treated differently, it probably should toss out the crime-tolerant elected officials who serve it and set zero tolerance in place.

If it just I Can't, We Cans, then yeah, contempt. Not bigotted. Very logical and independent of melanin concentration.

The alternative would be to hold the residents harmless because they cannot really change this ghetto government and then prosecute the City of Baltimore for accessory to massive crime. I'm kinda partial to convicting the Mayor & City Council.

Looks like we have another police involved shooting. A dumbass car thief tried to run down a cop, who then fired into the vehicle. Unfortunately the thug was not hit.

Speaking of Remington, I've noticed many more cops in the area. ut, it's not because of Shelia Dixon's new policing strategy. It's because a new resturant has been giving them free food! And please keep it coming. My street is a much nicer place when there are 6 cop cars and two transport vans parked there. All the normal bums and creeps are nowhere to be seen.

Oh man! That made me laugh out loud!

Er, okay, maybe we should use your categories then! I'll change it to "Implementing Change in Black Peoples' Neighborhood A Tall Order," is that better?!

As far as your "incredibly limited" and shallow comments about the PH
COMM.. Let me fill you in on my story about THIS once PROUD COMMUNITY..

In 1968 my MOTHER GRADUATED from the Lutheran Nursing School.. that was on the WESTSIDE.... In 1969 she met my FATHER who lived on RIGGS AVE and who also WORKED down at the POINT!!! In 1970 i myself was born
(out of WEDLOCK)at Lutheran Hospital ... and immediately came to 3800 W.GARRISON Avenue .....together as a FAMILY!! which was in the shadows of PARK H. AVE.. and grew together as a FAMILY!!! although my POPS moved a few blocks
over on W. BELVEDERE then later to PH AVE.......
A MIXED COMMUNITY OF SINGLE MOTHERS
AND COMPLETE FAMILIES WHO HELD DOWN JOBS AT GM!!! SOCIAL SEC!! SPARROWS POINT!! CARR LOWERY!!! UNION JOBS!! ETC...
This ONCE PROUD COMM. was probably like your NEIGHBORHOOD???... from HAYWARD AVE all the way down to PARK CIRCLE!!! A BLACK WORKING CLASS COMMUNITY.. JUST LIKE A WHITE DUNDALK!! OR WHITE ROSEDALE!! OR ANY BLUE COLLAR COMMUNITY FOR THAT MATTER!!!

My mother worked as a LPN NURSE @ SINAI HOSPITAL from 72'- 90 and currently an RN NURSE @ MT. WASHINGTON PED. My father took an early retirement after he suffered a stroke, probably caused from working at the POINT for 25yrs!!.... and me?? I'LL BE WORKING TOWARDS MY SECOND DEGREE AT UMBC NEXT FALL!!! Yeah!!! the kid born out of wedlock who came out of and LEARNED FROM THE CURRICULUM TAUGHT AT PIMLICO MIDDLE,
POLY TEC, THEN NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL ...

Now,i live in the "hood" because i want to.. not because iam
socially and economically ILL!! I hate crime just like YOU!!I'll snitch for the greater good and benefit for my COMMUNITY because i've never been scared and besides i keep registered "tools" in my "toolbox" i LEGALLY respect the Second Amendment.. also, I despise the status quo just like YOU!!!big business ,corporate sponsored GENTRIFICATION and absentee landlords is the root of the problems you and I see...just follow the money!! but its setup this way IMO ....as "Ordo Abchao"

I've spent quite a bit of time in Park Heights and it's actually has some very nice buildings and the people I've dealt with were very friendly (if it weren't for the criminal activity, that place would be a nice place to live). The architure is extremely attractive.

ppatin said...

Supreme, I realize there are plenty of productive, law-abiding citizens who live in Park Heights. However none of that changes the crime numbers, which are in fact probably far lower than they should be because of how this city underreports crime.
