Grad Student Robbed of Soda

JHU Homewood Campus
ARMED ROBBERY
Unit Block East 29th Street

MAY 13, 2008 - 1:05 AM
A graduate student had parked his vehicle and was walking east in the unit block of E. 29th Street when a black SUV drove slowly by him and stopped. Two unknown males wearing black bandanas over their faces got out of the SUV. One suspect pointed, what appeared to be, a long-barreled gun at the student while the other suspect went through his pockets. A wallet and a 12-pack of soda were taken from the victim who was not injured. The two suspects ran back to the SUV which then drove west on W. 29th Street. Baltimore Police and Campus Officers responded. Investigation continuing.

Not much good happens after midnight. Where did I hear that before. Oh, Brian Billick told that to the Ravens last year as the Ravens finished up spring training camp. But it is a good mantra for today's Baltimore, unfortunately. The later the hour, the more you put yourself at risk.

By the way, I've noticed that there's been a lot of violence directed at Hopkins students lately on the periphery of the campus. And the methodology of the cited crime here is similar to others such as Schenley Road, Zach Sowers': the thugs get into a car, sometimes stolen, sometimes "borrowed", and drive around looking for someone to rob. And then, eventually, they get caught, and whine and cry and complain that they didn't know it was bad, bad upbringing, lead in their head, etc. This despite the fact that these crimes are planned in advance, and deliberately executed with teamwork, and with victim selection evoking their true cowardice (usually).

Peter Moskos was on the Ron Smith show this afternoon, it was a pretty interesting interview.
