Four Years for Killer of Patrice Marable

.. does not seem like nearly enough.
The details from the SAO:
At a hearing yesterday Judge Timothy J. Doory sentenced Sampson Ashby, 28, of the 3000 block of Fendell Avenue to four years in prison. On February 27, 2009 Ashby pled guilty to one count of automobile manslaughter. The State had asked for a cap of eight years at the time Ashby pled guilty.

On July 6, 2008 at approximately 3:00PM Officers from the Northern District responded to 1123 Gleneagle Road for a reported vehicle fatality. Upon arrival officers discovered the body of Patrice Marable lying on the ground in the alley next to a telephone pole. Investigation revealed that the Marable and Ashby had been engaged in an altercation with Ashby attempting to strike Marable with a tree limb. He then pushed Marable down, causing her to drop her cell phone. Ashby took the cell phone and entered a pick-up truck. Marable proceeded to the driver’s side window and jumped partially through it in attempt to retrieve the phone. Ashby then backed up the truck at a high rate of speed out of the yard and turned the vehicle to his right heading for a telephone pole located in the alley. The victim was pinned between the vehicle and the pole, causing what was later to be determined a massive contusion. Ms. Marable fell lifeless to the ground. Ashby got out of the vehicle, saw Marable, recovered some broken auto parts from the scene, and fled in the vehicle.

Gee; wonder what the extenuating circumstances were?
Not only what appears on the brief outline of the case appears to be first degree or second degree murder (instead of auto manslaughter), but the state asks for a cap of 8 years? What's wrong with this picture?

And Judge Doory, normally a fairly stern jurist, gives him only 4?

Combined with the case in the post above, where a guy puts out a hit on his wife, and gets hardly anything, one wonders if crimes against women are really taken seriously in this town.

It is amazing how our judicial system works.... It never ceases to amaze me. Speaking as a family member of Tricey, who will be greatly missed by her children, her family and her friends, it is not fair. There is no amount of punishment that Mr. Ashby could ever be given that will replace our lost. My cousin was a great mother and a remarkable woman. Hopefully his conscience will be his greatest punishment. If you just happen to run across this ad as I and eventually her children... Please know that we cannnot judge you because there is only one judge but my cousin did not deserve the fate that you took upon yourself. To my little cousins know that we love you guys as much as we love not loved your mother and are here for you guys always.

Sampson Ashby is my father. He is not the type of malicious person to hurt anyone intentionally, they fail to mention in this article that she jumped in the window and stabbed him and that he was trying to leave. he didnt purposefully have her body pinned in between the light pole and the truck, im sorry but if she would have never jumped in the window to continue the ultercation none of this would be said. My father didnt deserve the consequences of a murder because he didnt murder her. This woman was definitely and only the victim in circumstance. so my father isnt the only one at fault.

what they also fail to add is that the charge was manslaughter because Patrice M. was pregnant with my sibling. my only question is why not question the actions of a woman who was knowingly pregnant because she drove through the window of a moving truck, my father didnt make her do that. and also my father went to help her but she told him to "get the fuck away" from her.

You said all of that for what. Everything you said don't matter bc my best friend is gone. There is no way you can justify what happened. It's not about who fault it is. its about your father taking her phone and try to leave with it, that is why she jumped in the car and he left her there. She never said nothing to him bc she was already dead so that is impossible she told him to leave her the fuck alone. Did your father tell you he kicked her and told her to get up? then got back into the car and left her like a piece of trash. I know you Love your father and you don't want to believe that your father is innocent. I do believe that your father's car was in reverse and he thought it was in drive. I don't think he did it on purpose, however my best friend is gone and her son's don't have there mother. She had so much to live for. Your father left her laying on the ground, went on the run, didn't show up at the funeral, never apologize to her family, and he didn't turn himself in. That would have been the right things to do, but he decided to look guilty and show us he didn't care.
