Blotter: Two teenage boys and a girl were shot in the chest, a man was slashed in the chest, plenty of break-ins.

A convicted cat stomper has been freed after being sexually abused in jail.
“It reminded me to buy Mace again,” said Katherine Kunkel of Burtonsville of the Columbia mall stalking/fondling incident.
More on the Cummings/PJ request for $90 million for U.S. Marshals to protect witnesses (the current Baltimore City witness assistence program consists of two people, I believe).

It was 10, the other was Maurice White, a 22-year-old African-American man, who was shot along with his brother from another mother.
I have found no information to confirm that the two men murdered on Radecke Ave. were related to each other.
While some federal money to fight witness intimidation would be great, I'm not sure getting help from the US Marshall's Service is the most efficient way to spend those funds. I'd use the money to pay for a few investigators and prosecutors whose only job would be to target hoodlums who intimidate witnesses. Make it clear that witness intimidation is a priority, and always seek the maximum sentence & refuse to cut deals with the thugs who try to undermine our justice system.
Well I think the purpose of having Marshalls is to keep people alive. It's great to hire more prosecutors but if your witnesses are dead it sort of defeats the purpose.
How many witnesses are you really going to be able to physically guard? I'm not saying we should wait until people are dead, rather we should be pouncing on criminals the first time they threaten someone. In some cases witnesses really do need direct protection by law enforcement, but that'll never work for more than a handfull of cases.
Zach Sowers' attackers are scheduled to go to trial on October 15th. From what I saw on MD Judiciary Case Search it looks like the State's Attorney's office is throwing the book at them. Hopefully they'll all get put away for life.
It seems Hammbone has finally read the writing on the wall and resigned.
The Marshall's Office isn't going to sit on these witnesses. They will help get them to safe houses and then help transport them to court. It's not a 24/7 detail on the witness.

How about we hire Marcus Brown back, so he can collect an early pension from the State of Maryland as well.
We really had ten murders in a week ?? Do you realize that El Paso, Spokane, Providence, etc only have about that many in an entire year?
That rather inner city of Hartford, which is admittedly also smaller, has only 24 murders a year and Savannah tops out at 29 a year.
I really do think that troops should impose a curfew in the streets after sunset, because this is out of control.
