Did anyone else hear Laura Sullivan's series of reports on NPR yesterday evening and this morning about the bail bonds industry? VERY interesting stuff, although a little slanted in favor of the jail inmates she interviewed. Still, while I knew that the bail bond industry was sleazy I had no idea it was this bad.

If one takes a good look at the 2009 homicide numbers in the Ditkoff City Paper stats, the numbers are pretty interesting.

I was surprised to see that the Northeastern district had 40, which seems pretty high for that area. Eastern had 38, which is phenomenal considering it is geographically small and Southeastern had 29. This means that an area that is about 1/3 the size of the city had 105 homicides.

The other problem area is the west. The total of the homicides of the Northwestern, Western and Southwestern comes to 78. I don't have the 2008 numbers in front of me but it would seem that things may be improving on the west and deteriorating on the east. I'll have to dig those numbers up from 2008.

I know we've seen a decrease in homicides in Southern.
